The company explains that their new unit will have cutting-edge robotics and automated manufacturing systems for everything including logistics & material handling, fabrication & painting and for assembly & quality assurance.
They claim that systems have been designed for flexible product mix, while keeping the best worker ergonomics and maximum process efficiency in mind.
Bajaj further adds that their manufacturing unit will be spread over half a million square feet and will employ more than 800 personnel. This unit at Akurdi will be co-located with Bajaj Auto’s R&D center. This, they say, will enable better collaboration between units and hence enable faster time-to-market.
They have also shared their ambition to transform the Akurdi facility into a hub for design, development and manufacturing for a complete range of electric vehicles.
This is an interesting development and Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director at Bajaj Auto, has now, clearly, started believing in electric vehicles.
These new investments and developments are further proof to the concept that the future of automotive mobility is Electric. There are a wide variety of challenges to overcome to make this concept a reality. However, these small steps by new start-ups and the big-guns will add up one day to have an almost complete electric mobility network in our country.
