So the mid-capacity sports motorcycle segment is growing in India and after a long long wait, we finally have Aprilia ready with its motorcycle in this space. The quest for a smaller capacity motorcycle from the Italian began when it showcased the RS150 (and the Tuono 150) many Auto Expos back.

The final product that we have in our market is called the Aprilia RS457 and the good news is that it is completely made in India at the Baramati facility. It joins the company’s full faired sportsters range and sits under the bigger RS660. Sharing the gorgeous looks from the elder sibling, the RS457 has smashing styling and will definitely appeal to a large audience.

As its name suggests, the 457 comes equipped with a 457cc parallel twin motor that is good for 48 PS of peak power at 9400 rpm and 43.5 Nm of max torque at 6700 rpm. The motor has a 270 degree firing order and the it weighs 175 kilos.

Prominent features include traction control, slipper clutch, ride by wire and three ride modes – Eco, Rain and Sport. Braking duties are spearheaded by a 320 mm disc at the front that has a 4 piston caliper and a 220 mm rotor at the rear.

The RS457 comes with a seat height of 800 mm and there are chunky upside down forks at the front. You also get a 5 inch TFT display.

At that price, the immediate rival Ninja 400 is whopping Rs 1.14 Lac away whereas the single cylinder RC390 is cheaper by about Rs 90,000.

Bookings will commence from 15th December onwards and deliveries will start from March 2024. The prospects look real good and the Italian is here to combat the Japs; interesting times ahead.. for sure!
