Aprilia to Launch Burgman-Like 160cc Maxi-Scooter [Rumour]

Aprilia Maxi-Scooter launch will give the company a product in the newly originated segment in India…

Piaggio decided to introduce the marquee Aprilia brand in India via the ‘scooter’ route and so far they have been successful in their attempt with the SR150 and SR125 doing fairly well in the Indian market. To catapult sales, they are now trying to get into other sub-segments as well.

According to a report at Bikewale, Piaggio is working on a new maxi-scooter which is expected to be inspired by the popular MP3 and it will be introduced under the Aprilia brand. Basically, Piaggio appears to be encouraged by the good response Suzuki Burgman Street has received in the Indian market.

According to the report, the unnamed Aprilia scooter will continue to be powered by the 155cc engine of the SR150 but in order to give it a separate identity, Piaggio may brand it as a 160cc. The scooter, they say, is in its final stages of development. It could be launch ready by as early as early next year.

Aprilia’s upcoming scooter is expected to be based on the Piaggio MP3

If and when this scooter hits our market it will join Suzuki’s Burgman but owing to its higher engine capacity it will definitely breach the INR 1 Lakh on road price tag. Apart from this, Aprilia is about to launch Storm – a scooter based on its SR range. They have also confirmed new ‘sports’ 150cc motorcycle which is expected to be based on the RS150 which they showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo (more details).
