Bajaj Auto to Launch all New Discover in April 2011

After success of Discover 100cc and 150cc Bajaj Auto India’s second largest two wheeler maker is going to launch all new Discover in April 2011. In a recent interview with CNBC TV18 Bajaj auto, MD, Rajiv Bajaj confirmed the same.

He said “we have two initiatives ruling out in March, 130 new dealers become operational and we have a new Discover in the market place. So, I am certainly hopeful that from March, we exceed 300,000 bikes and get close to 350,000 bikes from April quite honestly.”

In other interview with CNBC TV 18 he said, “On the product front we have a new product in the Discover brand to be introduced into the market place right at the start of the financial year. So, with a wider network and with another exciting product in the market place, Discover should also keep going.”

“As we launch the new Discover for example, that improves the profitability of the Discover portfolio because obviously, it will be more than the 100 CC Discover, which we already have. So it is bound to be more profitable.”

From above words it’s very clear that new Discover is not just the Discover which we have seen till now. It will be entirely new variant of Discover. Discover the brand which was introduced by Bajaj Auto in 2004 has sold more than 4 million units till the date.  The first variant of Bajaj Discover was Discover 125cc. The new Discover is going to become sixth variant under Discover portfolio which currently has only Discover 100cc and Discover 150cc. The company discontinued three variants Discover 125cc launched in 2004, Discover 112cc launched in 2005 and Discover 135cc launched in 2008.

As a part of Bajaj Auto strategy the company is going to focus only on two brands Pulsar and Discover in the domestic market. The brand Discover which is established as high mileage, long distance family bike operates under executive segment which commands more than 50% of overall motorcycle sales in India. Currently the segment is dominated by Hero Honda Splendour. Source: MoneyControl.com
