Both the R2 fully-faired supersport motorcycle and NMax 155 maxi-scooter will further strengthen Yamaha’s product portfolio in India
In Nov 2025, Yamaha India announced plans to launch 20+ new motorcycles and scooters in the country by the end of 2026, which included a few all-new models and facelifts of existing two-wheelers. While some models among these have already been launched such as EC 06, XSR155, and 2026 Fascino facelift, we await the launch of several more in the coming months. Yamaha R2 and NMax 155 are two such highly-anticipated motorcycles which are likely to launch later this year in the Indian market. Let’s talk about them in detail.
Yamaha R2
It is believed that the all-new R2 could debut by the end of 2026 as Yamaha’s global 200cc motorcycle. To be positioned between Yamaha R15 and Yamaha R3 in the brand’s portfolio, Yamaha R2 will be locally developed at the brand’s factory in Chennai while the made-in-India model will also be exported to multiple global markets. Internally codenamed as 070, the ‘R2’ moniker was trademarked in Dec 2025 in India.
Yamaha R2 is likely to be pretty identical to the other superports motorcycle in the Japanese brand’s portfolio. It could get a fully-coloured TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation. The introduction of a 200cc engine in the R2 seems inevitable. It could be priced between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.20 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian market to take on the likes of KTM RC200 and Hero Karizma XMR.

The local production will ensure an aggressive price as it will be sold alongside the R15, which contrary to earlier reports, will not be discontinued from the Indian market after the launch of the R2. The R2 could be fitted with 17-inch front and rear wheels while the suspension duties are likely to be performed by USD front forks and monoshock rear unit. It could be packed with disc brakes at both the ends.
Yamaha NMax 155
The NMax 155 will be launched in India either in the second half of 2026 or early 2027. It will be the brand’s second maxi-styled high-performance scooter in India after the Aerox. Yamaha NMax 155 boasts of multiple striking features such as Ride Modes, Dual-channel ABS, 4.2-inch TFT display, Turn-by-turn Navigation, and all-LED lighting.

It is powered by the same 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that we see with the Aerox. This engine is capable of churning out top power of 14.8 bhp and peak torque of 14 Nm. The NMax 155 is presently sold in several Asian and European markets, including Singapore, Indonesia, and the UK. It has been on sale for more than a decade since it globally debuted in 2015.
