Upcoming Yamaha R2 Could Debut as Global 200cc Bike: What We Know So Far

Yamaha R2 could be the next big launch from the Japanese brand globally in the Q3 FY27 as its new 200cc motorcycle

Yamaha Motor Company could roll out the all-new R2 by the end of 2026 as its global 200cc motorcycle. It will be positioned between Yamaha R15 and Yamaha R3 in the brand’s international supersport range. The company has filed the R2 trademark in several countries, including India, the USA, Europe, Mexico and Australia. Hence, it is being assumed that Yamaha R2 is going to be a global 200cc motorcycle in the fully-faired sportsbike segment. The R2 will be locally developed at the brand’s factory in Chennai while the made-in-India model will also be shipped to multiple international markets.

Yamaha R2 Price in India

It could be priced between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.20 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian market to take on the likes of KTM RC200 and Hero Karizma XMR. The local production will ensure an aggressive price as will be sold alongside the R15, which contrary to earlier reports, will not be discontinued from the Indian market after the launch of the R2.

Yamaha R2 Launch Date in India

Internally codenamed as 070, Yamaha R2 is likely to launch during the festive season of Diwali in Q3 FY27 so that the brand has enough time for marketing and other promotional activities. The R2 moniker was trademarked in Dec 2025 last year and since then, a lot of rumours have been floating in the market regarding the launch timeline. However, Yamaha has remained tightlipped so far.

It will have a committed riding position.

Yamaha R2 Engine and Hardware

The R2 could be fitted with 17-inch front and rear wheels while the suspension duties are likely to be performed by USD front forks and monoshock rear unit. It could be packed with disc brakes at both the ends. At the heart, it could house a bigger version of the existing 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. In its current tune, this engine develops top power of 18.1 bhp and peak torque of 14.2 Nm. It is certain that the R2’s engine will develop higher power and torque as it will be positioned above the R15 in Yamaha’s portfolio in India.
