Launched amidst much fanfare last year, Hero Mavrick 440 monthly sales numbers sunk to just double digits which could have led to its discontinuation.
Hero MotoCorp launched its most premium and expensive model last year in the Indian market in the form of the Mavrick 440. It has been around one and a half years since the bike went on sale at an introductory price of Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom). However, we have heard that Hero dealers are no longer taking bookings for the Mavrick 440 as the company has not manufactured and dispatched a single unit in the last three months. The official company website still has the Mavrick 440 listed, but sources tell us that it has been silently axed from the domestic market in India.
Hero Mavrick 440 was built in partnership with the American two-wheeler brand Harley-Davidson. It was Hero’s very own version of the Harley-Davidson X440, albeit with a lot of ‘desi’ elements to maintain its individuality. The roadster model was presented in three grades namely Base, Mid and Top in a price range of Rs 1.99-2.24 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Hero Mavrick 440 deliveries in India began in April 2024 across the country. While the Base trim was only available in the Arctic White color scheme, the Mid variant was offered in Celestial Blue and Fearless Red colorways, followed by the Top grade which is up for buy in Phantom Black and Enigma Black paint options. The fuel tank, shrouds and front fender were carved out of metal.
The bike flaunted a circular LED projector headlamp with daytime running lights (DRLs). The turn indicators and tail-lamp cluster also had LED units, thus completing the all-LED lighting setup. Riding on 17-inch front and rear wheels, Hero Mavrick 440 came loaded with specially crafted 0° steel radial pattern tyres. It had an upright riding position with a wide handlebar.

Some of the notable features onboard included a digital speedometer with Bluetooth connectivity, Hero eSIM-based connectivity through Connected 2.0 technology, sculpted rider seat with 60mm foam, slip-and-assist clutch, and dual-channel ABS. The pairing of Smartphone with digital instrument cluster resulted in access to several features such as Turn-by-Turn Navigation, Phone Battery Status, Miss call Alert, Bluetooth Message Alert, Incoming Call, Low Fuel Alert, and Distance to Empty.
At the heart, the Mavrick 400 had the 440cc single-cylinder ‘TorqX’ petrol engine with power output of 27 bhp at 6000 rpm and torque performance of 36 Nm at 4000 rpm. The engine was mated to a 6-speed gearbox. This purported news of Mavrick 440’s discontinuation comes as a real shocker to most people, including the author of this article as it was perhaps the best motorcycle made by the brand. Further, Hero was planning to build a portfolio of big bikes and it was the first model in that direction.
