2-Wheeler Retail sales July 2022 – Being the first true COVID disruption free year, it was an important month of July. We compare it against numbers from pre-COVID levels to bring the real picture…

FADA (Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations) is out with its monthly sales data for 2-wheelers for July 2022. It must be noted that the numbers denoted below are retail sales ie the number of vehicles registered with RTOs and is a more appropriate figure of how is the automobile market performing.

2-Wheeler Retail Sales July 2022

Overall, 10,09574 units of 2-wheelers were sold in the month of July 2022 which are almost 11 percent lower than 11,33,344 units of July last year.

The reasons cited for the poor demand in the 2-wheeler space are –

  • Low demand specially in the rural space
  • High inflation
  • Erratic monsoons
  • High cost of ownership

In comparison with July 2020, these numbers are higher by almost 14 percent, however, if we go back all the way till July 2019, then this is a major fall of almost 28 percent or about 4 lakh lesser units were sold in this month.

In absolute terms 2019 was the last real COVID-free year and a direct comparison with its monthly numbers reveals the true picture and how far behind we have come. In fact, after the disruptions caused by COVID, July 2022 could be called as the most disruption-free month without any major regulations and limitations. And a shortfall of nearly 4 lac units highlights the major deficit that the 2-wheeler world has suffered.
