So, the veil has finally been lifted, and the long spied & rumoured bike from TVS has been launched in the form of a cruiser-scrambler hybrid with retro design elements to appeal to the lovers of old-school aesthetics. 

This new bike marks the company’s foray into the Premium Lifestyle Segment of the Indian motorcycle industry. 

Let’s take a closer look at the new TVS Ronin – 

  1. Variants, Colours & Price
  • TVS Ronin has been introduced in 3 variants – Ronin SS (Base), Ronin DS (Base Plus) & Ronin TD (Top-Variant).
  • Each variant is being offered in 2 exclusive colours – Single-tone for the SS variant & Dual-tone for DS and TD variants.
  • The Ronin starts at Rs. 1,49 Lakh for the base variant and tops at 1.69 Lakh (ex-showroom).
  1. Design & Company’s description of Ronin
  • TVS Ronin is introduced by the company to be their 1st offering in the Premium Lifestyle Segment of the Indian motorcycling domain. 
  • They explained during the presentation that they have created a bike that is not bound by any single way of thinking or any stereotype.
  • This design philosophy is very evident in the overall look of the bike. 
  • At the first glance, the retro-inspired look is very evident with round headlights, flat single-unit seat, humped fuel tank shape etc.
  • However, the rest of the bike design has modern touches – such as all-LED lighting, fully digital offset instrumentation aided by SmartXonnect Bluetooth functionality and much more. 
  • Along with the bike, TVS have also launched a whole range of Official Accessories & Official Apparel/Merchandise, to promote this new lifestyle. 
  1. Engine & Transmission
  • TVS boasts that the engine (just like the bike itself) has been designed & built ground up.
  • It is a unique Square design measuring 66 mm x 66 mm.
  • The motor is a new 225.9 cc, single-cylinder, SOHC, oil-cooled unit.
  • The engine is able to produce 20.4 HP at 7,750 RPM and 19,93 Nm of torque at 3,750 RPM. 
  • TVS have explained that they have worked especially hard on the characteristics of the new engine to have as Flat Torque Curve as possible. (see above image)
  • The power from the engine is put down to the ground through a 5-speed transmission system aided by an Assist & Slipper Clutch. 
  • Claimed Top-Speed – 120 km/h.
  • Fuel Capacity – 14 L.
  1. Chassis & Suspension
  • The new Ronin is built around a Double-Cradle Split Synchro Stiff frame. 
  • Fitted at the front are the segment-first 41 mm Showa Big-piston Upside-Down (USD) forks with Black paint for base models and Gold coloured for the upper two variants. 
  • The rear is equipped with a Gas-charged Monoshock setup featuring a floating piston. 
  • Wheelbase – 1357 mm.
  • Ground clearance – 181 mm.
  • Seat height – 795 mm.
  • Kerb weight – 159 kg. 
  1. Extensive Feature-list
  • TVS have equipped the new Ronin with every feature they have in their huge tech arsenal. 
  • The total lighting setup of Ronin is full-LED – Arrow-shaped LED indicators, an LED headlight with a signature ‘T’ pilot lamp and a sleek LED tail-light.
  • Fitted on the Ronin is the offset round digital speedometer which is aided by SmartXonnect technology for Bluetooth functionality. 
  • The digital instrumentation can be controlled by the on-the-go handlebar controls which also come with a mode-change button.

  1. Wheels & Brakes
  • The new Ronin is riding on 17”, 9-spoked alloys with 110/70-section at the front and 130/70-section at the rear. 
  • The braking is handled by a 300 mm single-disc system at the front and a similar 240 mm single-disc at the rear. 
  • The ABS system is single-channel in the base & mid variant while the top variant gets dual-channel ABS as standard. 
  • Ronin is also equipped with 2 ABS modes – Urban & Rain modes. 
  • Optionally, the owners can opt for 3-step adjustable levers for the Ronin base & mid variant; the top variant comes with adjustable levers as standard.
