Print This Post
TVS motors have launched the much expected bigger gear-less scooter Wego and a clutch-less bike named Jive yesterday. A quick glimpse of both, Speaking about Wego, the engine is a 110c.c four stroke air cooled that churns out 8bhp at 7500 rpm with a torque value of 8Nm at 5500 rpm. TVS also has addressed as Wego will be a fully furnished scooter that will be loved by all families that loves to commute in a scooter.

TVS also has equipped this vehicle with body balancing technology that enables lower stress and gives an easy steer around the traffic which again provides better control and maneuverability eliminating weight distribution hassles. TVS Wego also comes with a whole new features that attracts everyone which includes twelve inch alloys, LED tail lamps with optical guides for optimum visibility, external fuel filler, integrated glove box, sealed maintenance free battery, gas charged rear shock absorbers, under seat charger to charge the battery as well as mobile phone and much more. TVS Wego is priced at Rs.42,500 (Ex-showroom Chennai).

Talking about the new Jive, one important and an attractive highlight is that the bike is equipped with an automatic clutch which when remembered is the next bike to Hero Honda Street. The Jive has a 110 cc four stroke heart that produces 8.4bhp at 7500rpm with a torque value of 8.3Nm at 5500rpm. TVS Jive comes with a T-matic clutch that lets the rider change gears without having to use the clutch manually this also means there will be no clutch lever present. The gearbox is sourced from its Indonesian plant whereas the engine is made at their home plant in Hosur. The Jive at a mere 110 kg weight can maneuver traffic effortlessly with an added advantage of the new automatic clutch.
The Jive is also equipped with anti stall mechanism that makes riding smooth even in the lower gears without the engine shutting off which is again impossible with the motorcycles that are equipped with a manual clutch. The bike is also equipped with an electric starter and the bike can be started irrespective of whatever gear it is parked in. Jive is also the first motorcycle in India that comes with an under seat storage space that can fairly hold some necessities. TVS Jive is priced at Rs. 41,000 (ex-showroom Chennai).
I seriously hope, both the Wego and Jive will be some serious fun in our future reviews that will be done soon.
Regards,
Ram

ACCORDING TO ME LAUNCHING A GEARLESS SCOOTER IS OK BUT A CLUTCH LESS BIKE IS NOT VERY EXCITING BECAUSE NOWADAYS EVERYBODY IS USED TO THE CLUTCHES & IT WILL VERY CONFUSING AND UNEASY TO DRIVE SUCH A BIKE. LETS SEE HOW THE PEOPLE RESPONSE TO IT. HOPE NOT IT CREATES A HISTORY IN THE MARKET….

@Raghav
Riding a bike without clutch is definitely a fun I personally had ridden Hero Honda Street, Clutch-less bikes are very common in Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines but it would be wrong if we call them a bike because they are moreover moped like women oriented vehicles but TVS has attempted this concept with motorcycle for the first time in India to entertain those bike enthusiasts who want to enjoy their city ride with ease of auto clutch without leaving their darling bikes.

yes.. i have ridden hero honda street smart… it had rotary gears without clutch.. Neutral-1st-2nd-3rd-4th-Netural and so on..no clutch was there.. gears were smooth.. but shifting did feel wierd… and if sudden gear change to lower gear at high speed.. then tyre slip was sure

I’ve ridden Jive 2 months ago in Pune as my dad works 4 TVS n it really felt smooth….Gear change is not a problem n pick up is instant…..

Well i wish to know something. In normal bikes if i brake in third gear to halt, i have to down shift to first or if you are good then atleast second gear to move on from halt. Otherwise the bike stops. How is that over here. If i halt from third gear what will happen? It will surely be a boon in city traffic but for fun driving am not sure as i have not felt it…… The adrenaline of third gear coupled with clutch is what i always love.

@Tushal
If you halt in third gear… then you will have to get to 1st gear to start moving again.. same as any bike..only you dont use clutch… just the throttle…

I like the pace of TVS, they are surely going sum where with this
Raghav on November 27, 2009 at 10:35 pm
clutch is the most important element in controlling the bike .
will its absence in this bike cause a problem ?
how will we pop up wheelies with it, and what bout stoppies ?
sanket kambli on November 28, 2009 at 11:31 am
@Raghav..
I dont think this bike is made for stunting….
it is for people who find clutch use confusing or stressful in traffic… want something simple to use and dont even think about performace racing….
sanket kambli on November 28, 2009 at 11:35 am
@fas
i agree with you
DHIRAJ C RAUT on December 1, 2009 at 9:20 pm
please anyone tell me…..in geared bike you release throttle and change gears….do we have to release throttle here too….
sanket kambli on December 2, 2009 at 10:46 am
@DHIRAJ C RAUT
in these clutch-free geared bikes… you can change gears by not releasing throttle..but if you do so after the gear is engaged the bike may surge or jerk forward due to sudden increase in speed.. so it is recommended to release throttle before changing gears..
hope that helps

People, Eager to know about the tvs wego peformance. Please post your comments on that. Accrording to me now a days traffic is getting worst day by day…so lets say bye bye to clutch and welcome the clutch free modules to save fuel….
fakhru on February 22, 2010 at 1:18 pm
TVS jive is the best bike for begginers and tension free bike.
there is no problem for changing gears without clutch, personally using cluch in engine is useless for nowadays technology, it is just like PC -> laptop -> mobile.
so better to go for latest technology.

I agree with Raghav and SRK….. I tried to buy a vehicle like hero honda street but they stopped the production. Gear+clutch = you have to do two work simultaneously. With out clutch = easy riding in traffic especially in metros…. As fakhru says, we have to adopt newer technology… and if we dont want, others may like……
