Honda Shine 125cc Review
Print This Post
I am really in love with Honda’s cute starter segment bike, the Honda Shine. With 125cc engine, I feel that this bike does a very good job in giving you comfort, mileage and descent looks. Here’s a review of the various aspects of Honda Shine.
Styling: The looks of the bike is not sporty like the Glamour, the competitor from Hero Honda. But I feel that the bike has a different focus than the latter. The bike has been designed for the ‘office commuter’ in mind who needs plain and neat looks. If you are a college student, choose to buy the Honda CBF Stunner which has the same 125cc engine but a sporty and trendy outfit.
Performance: Many users have told me that the bike vibrates when it is taken above 60 km/hr. But one has to remember that this is a 125cc bike and not a 150cc one. But at low speeds, the acceleration is fantastic. The bike gives a mileage of more than 50kmpl for sure but it can give higher number if you maintain the right air pressure in the tires and get your bike serviced regularly.

The bike has very good handling, the ergonomic seats make it very comfortable for all day riding. Gearing is a noticeable feature in Shine. A owner of Honda Shine says – Gearing is very user friendly. Frequent gear shifting is not required. You can ride at quite low speeds without down shifting. For example: if I am going in 4th gear and I approach a speed breaker, I have been able to slow down to around 20kmph, cross the speed breaker and then accelerate again all the while remaining in 4th gear. Wow! That makes city riding more comfortable.
The dashboard has the basic features built into it. Speedometer and ODO meter on the left and fuel gauge with three indicators (high beam, signal, and neutral) on the right. The indicator lights look cute in oval shape, don’t you think so? And they are bright enough so that it is visible even in broad day light.

Verdict: Honda Shine sets itself apart from other bikes in 125cc segment. You know why? It is a original Honda make. Honda is known for high quality of parts, durability and pride of ownership. Overall this is a good bike which I would recommend to my uncle, but not my friend!

Honda’s commuter bikes are very bland. They need to give it some style and features like digital instrumentation.

Hi All,
I am looking to get a bike…
My choices are : Honda Shine and Hero Honda Glamour.
************************************************
I read reviews on Shine at this site and others….
My friends telling me that in Shine Vibration is much. If we ride beyond 50+, its vibrating ….
Got all other feedbacks as positive except Vibration prob.
Iam very much impressed by Shine looks and appeal…
Other one Glamour not looking good when compared with Shine.
Other like Passion Pro and Plus are not that good looking.
Can I include Yamaha Gladiator in my choice….Any info abt that…
Need all of yours suggestions……….. Can anyone help me out of confusion.

hello everybody!
honda shine is a extreme bike as far as I think.
I had ride this bike with the speed of 85kmph and it was beyond imagination. nice bike. I will say for this. though it is not glamourous bike but a bike with decent presentation.

My two day old Honda Shine had problem with rear shock absorber. It use to make loud noise on crossing any hump or pot hole. So I brought it to the notice of the GM at sales point Silicon Honda at Bangalore and got them replaced under warranty.
I think the shock absorber and chain will be the parts that will have recuring problem.

Hai friends,
Iam very much happy that this is the best bike which we can ever buy, because its durability ,slow speed and high balance etc is very high .
KS on June 4, 2009 at 7:14 pm
I purchased Honda Shine on March 2009. The main drawback is milage. Hardly i get 50-55kmpl in city rides. It is fond of drinking petrol.
The Gear box seem to have some problem. While on drive, the gears do not lock immediately. So if you leave the clutch some life threatening sound comes from the engine.
Pick up is good. Riding comfort is good. But look is not that nice.
Overall I doubt whether its worth for the money and i never expected Honda would deliver a bike of this kind.

Hi,
im 30 years from tamilnadu after long in my life i bought first bike which is honda shine i am from middle class family and after lot struggles i bought this bike the major problem in this bike is all the spares are very costly when compared to hero honda, honda spares are really costly and even at service centres the mechanics are not takeing proper care of vechical so pls dont go for this vehical if u plan to buy any bike better go for tvs, bajaj or even go for hero honda
bhupendra on July 1, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Last two years i drive honda shine it is very very excellent bike than all 125 cc Bikes .The name of honda shine is a shine fantastic performance & given 70 kmpl milleage & no maintence cost .
Saravanangv on July 5, 2009 at 8:50 am
Hi i am saravanan. I would like to buy a bike and this wil be my first bike. My choices are HONDA SHINE and HERO HONDA PASSION PRO, which is better to buy. I am expecting good performance and mileage. Pls some one help me
Goutam on July 12, 2009 at 12:56 pm
Hi, I am Goutam. I have this bike from July-07 and it has covered 40,000 kms. I want to say that it is a Excellent bike. Its acceleration is very fast. And mileage response is very fast, means if you drive in between economy range, it’ll give 70+ & if you ride it very roughly at low speeds or over 90s at highways than it’ll come down upto 35. I have gone upto 800 kms longrun on this bike but there is no problem in it. In 125cc segment, it is the best followed by Gladiator. Want 5th gear.
yashwanth on July 20, 2009 at 11:28 am
better go for HONDA Shine. coz u need to ride it for 10 yrs. i bought Shine 2 yrs back and it still performs as if it is bought yesterday.
Ramanuj on August 1, 2009 at 7:10 pm
I have Honda shine 125 cc bike.this bike is not good at all and who review this bike don’t know any thing about this bike.i think this person get money from Honda company.
This bike having no pick up and if you accelerate then your bike will stop.again you have to start.I thought Honda is a good company, but Bloody cheater.
Better buy any hero Honda bike.and one more thing the resale value is also very bad.even people don’t want to buy this bike.
And servicing is also not good at all.The service center only need money, they don’t know any thing about the bike. How come a company like Honda doing all such thing.Bloody cheater.
Shrish on August 5, 2009 at 2:58 pm
hello,i think ur bike may be having any permanent flaws, bcoz even i m having the same bike and it iz xcellent!it is perfect commuter bike with decent look, good mileage and even good acceleration…i think it is one of the best 125cc bike ever

Hi i am Srinath. I would like to buy a bike and this wil be my first bike. My choices are HONDA SHINE and HERO HONDA PASSION PRO, which is better to buy. Pls some someone suggest me a good performing bikee.. it will be helpfull to me..
P Goutam Kumar on August 11, 2009 at 2:22 pm
There is no doubt that Shine will be a better option than passion pro. Almost at the same price U’ll get 25cc more with very high power output of 10.3bhp whereas Passion pro delivers 7.5bhp only. Performance is also far better than the Passion pro, Glamour & S.Splendour. It is the best in its class. So, go for the same.
chinmaya joshi on August 15, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Although shine is one of the costliest bikes in the 125 cc segment it is worth every penny you pay ,the acceleration is fantastic and the pick up is more better than what you can expect out of a 125 cc bike .frequent gear shifting is not reqd at all.should suit for all age groups.

hi all
I was using HONDA SHINE for the past 1 year, i m happy with the ride & everything, but the thing which makes me unsatisfy is its rear tyre.Yes as its dia is so less the bike getting unbalancing when apply the rear brake at rainy season or in a wet roads.. I was slipped due to this for 2 times.
twincam on September 10, 2009 at 7:54 pm
I have owned a honda shine from Nov. 2006. bad vibration and hard shock absorbers for about 10,000 kms. after that it got much better and now has run 23,000 kms. now engine is very smooth and suspension is also softer after i retuned the spring to the softest setting. I have put a 100/90 large tyre for softness. the bike is still almost brand new after abuse for 3 years. It has extremely fast pick up upto 55 km/hr. faster even than pulsar 150, (which is my older bike). Bike is still brand new. No rust or fading of paint anywhere. I wanted to buy the “Fastest Indian” 220 pulsar but this bike is so good that I am confused.

Hi, I have HONDA shine 125cc . this is one of the worst bike in 2 wheeler segment.
Why i will explain.
1.Milage is very bad i.e 50 km
2.Rear tyre is very thin and weak
3.Not suitable for more then 2 people.
4.Battery backup is very bad
5.Every morning self start is not possible.
6.Night head lamp is very less focus
7.After 60 km/h bike will vibrates.
8.For 125 cc bike is requried 5 gares but shine have 4 gares only.
9.This bike is suitable for class roads
10.No value for money.
So dont go for this bike.

I would advice everyone to buy Honda shine, apart from flashy stlye, this bike everything in store for everyone…I am getting an average of 72-75km/litre, gear system are a class, i can drive @ 15-20km/hr even at 4th gear, heavy in centr to give you an excellent balance, seat position superbly good to give you a whole day ride without pain in ur bums…speed, yeah beyond 60 it vibrates a bit, but after multiple servicing, this affair aslo goes into thin air….overallits not stylish like other bike, but an excellent for metro road travels

I am a pride owner of HONDA SHINE. I drive 60kms every day and it gives me a good mileage of 63km/ltr. This bike is matchless in 125 CC segment.
On the other part the tecnicians at the Show room are scary, they do nothing but wash the bike. The Honda Company need concentrate on the customer satisfaction in the aspect of service.
Finally Honda Shine is THE BEST in 125 CC segment

S Nanda on February 4, 2010 at 3:25 pm
Hi All,
I’m givin fair feed back on this bike, I bought this bike in June 2007.
Pros,
1. Comfort for a long trip and in the city too (I mean ergo)
2. Appeal
3. good at class roads.
4. no color fadding
5. Mileage is not so bad like other bikes.
Cons,
1. Unsecure while you acceralte more than 60, hell Vibration.
2. gear lock failures
3. starting problem
4. seating is small
5. skids during rain.
6. spares very costly and no durablity.
7. Authorised Service Centers are very less and they are very bad too in treating the customers
conclusion :
It is GOOD bike while comparing to others, except YAMAHA.
At the safety point for the Harsh riding, please don’t go for Honda Shine…
Belive me just I left my bike to the unauthorised service center because the bad treatment and service of Authorised centers. bought the core spares for Rs.579/= for a bike which still not crossed 12500 KMS.
for the new buyers, choice is yours.
Regards,
S Nanda, Chennai.
