It has been 10 years since the launch of the original Pulsar and today’s launch is expected to go into the history of motorcycling in India. At the conference, Mr. Naren, our regular author and 2 special correspondents of BikeAdvice Mr. Amit Gavande and Mr. Pratheek Kunder are present representing BikeAdvice.

Technical Specifications

  • 200cc SOHC Engine
  • 3 Spark Plugs
  • Liquid Cooled Engine
  • 23 BHP @ 9500 RPM

  • 18.3 Nm Torque @ 8000 RPM
  • 145 KG Kerb Weight
  • 12 Litre Fuel Tank

Press Release

  • Bajaj Auto Unveils the generation next Pulsar 200NS
  • World’s first motorcycle to adopt Triple Spark Engine Technology
  • Next generation technology offers unmatched overall performance

Mumbai, 30 January 2012: A little more than 10 years since the original Pulsar was launched, Bajaj Auto today unveiled the Next Gen Pulsar 200NS. This new Pulsar is all set to re-define Motorcycling technology and design as-much-as the original Pulsars did way back in 2001.

At the heart of the new Pulsar is its cutting-edge engine which sets new benchmarks in performance, emission and incidentally also fuel efficiency. The DTS-i (Digital Twin Spark-ignition) technology launched in 2003 marked a unique first in the history of Indian Motoring.

The new Pulsar takes this technology altogether to another level with a SOHC 4-valve Triple Spark engine controlled by an advanced Electronic Control Unit for an absolutely unmatched performance. To support this exhilarating heart-pumping performance the bike comes with liquid cooling and a six speed gear box.

The Pulsar 200NS chassis comprises a pressed steel perimeter frame and a Rectangular tube section swing arm delivering over three times the lateral stiffness of a P220 frame. These deliver outstanding high speed handling and cornering stability. The centrally located muffler and the unique gas filled Nitrox mono suspension further improve the ride and handling of the bike due to low & centralized CG position.

The Pulsar design character has evolved with the performance & dynamics. It’s become stronger, more aggressive with a street fighter stance. The look just begs you to ride it. Once astride, the sporty speedo console, triple-tree clip-ons, the signature clips and the illuminated switches evoke the design, fit and finish so far exclusively reserved for much more expensive super sports bikes. The new 200cc Pulsar is probably the most stunning sports bike in its class oozing raw muscular appeal.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. K. Srinivas, President-Motorcycles, Bajaj Auto said: “Pulsar has now celebrated a ‘Decade of Dominance’ with 10 years of leadership in the Indian performance motorcycle market. These sporty iconic motorcycles have been a testimony to the company’s engineering prowess. The Pulsar 200 NS showcases next leap in technology and design and will set the standard for others to follow.

We believe that 2012-13 will be an exciting period where Bajaj Auto will excite customers both here and abroad,” Mr. Srinivas added.

The Pulsar 200NS will be commercially launched beginning next Fiscal.

I think, Mr. Bajaj understood that they are nowhere in 150 CC Segment so that he is trying his luck in 200 CC segment. I must say ‘best of luck’ to him. LOL

The bikes seems low …May be bigger tyres and a larger fuel tank would have made this beauty a beast ..
Looking fwd to it

But somebody here lead all of us to believe it would be a 220..! Anyway let the 200 set the stage for the big bro. The specs seems nice. 23 horses and some serious torque from an apparently thoroughly reworked engine. Prima facie the design and built quality are way up than the present versions. May be the Austrian connection has helped a lot. I am testing one of those the moment it arrives at the dealer’s. May be i can strike a deal for my veteran 220 S too. :-)

Very nice Bike…It will rock…..Definitely male….

Reply

true January 30, 2012 at 4:09 pm

The tyres and disc brakes look good and the bike too, but the headlight looks bad. The bike looks small too. It is based on the KTM engine surely.

But 3 spark plugs, thats crazy. So, will next level be 4 spark plugs? Is that called new technology? Thats Funny.

But surely pricing will be competitive from bajaj.

Reply

true January 30, 2012 at 4:10 pm

The NS suffix indicates a faired version could also follow soon.

After elections in 5 states, petrol will be Rs.100 per litre. No point in buying this category of bikes
which deliver poor mileage

Reply

No matter wat will be the price of petrol….
But I jst loved it… PULSAR……

Reply

Bajaj is a copy cat. They’ve taken ‘Inspiration’ from Yamaha FZ, KTM Duke, and some design cues are straight from Italian motorcycles. The Pulsar was a disease, which unfortunately spread all over.Rubbish cycles,Bajaj is not worth even considering.

Reply

Don January 31, 2012 at 5:09 pm

He is absolutely right.the bike is good and loaded with features, but i dont believe in the engine and build quality of bajaj bikes.mainly pulsar bikes and the design is also copied from fz,cb1000 etc

Reply

prakash January 31, 2012 at 12:39 am

super naked bike, it has the pulsy street feel……………….
i love it.

Reply

NITIN February 3, 2012 at 2:21 pm

i think many here are compairing the bike with the 250 CC bikes, i think bajaj wins in a way. Why 200 CC bike is compared to the bikes of higher CC. Many here commented abt the bike but they dont even know where is the exhaust is so what have they seen befoe commenting. I think they envy the brand as they dont have one. 200NS IS NOT ONLY “DEFINITLY MALE” I WOULD SAY “DEFINITLY STREET FIGHTER”

bajaj sud think about ugrading da luks of its tyres. Those tyres really don’t look sporty. For instance, fz’s tyres got far more better luks than da bajaj’s.
Bajaj! Get a real sporty tyres for your bikes.

Reply

Manu May 18, 2012 at 10:55 am

This bike definitely looks good. But there is no sense in arguing whether its better or worse unless we get our hands on one of theses machines. It will be a great bargain at the price they say they plan to launch i.e. less than 1 lakh. But then again if they have rid themselves of those small technical glitches which bajaj is o so famous for i think it will definitely outrun the yamahas tvs’s and honda’s. untill then we jus have to watch the r15s fz’s n cbr’s blow past us in great velocities.
