Yamaha’s First Electric Scooter EC 06 Debuts in India

Yamaha EC 06, based on River Indie, is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2026 at a price point of around Rs 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

Yamaha has finally unveiled its first electric scooter for the Indian market in the form of the EC 06 at an event held in Mumbai. Based on the River Indie, it is likely to be launched in the first quarter of 2026. Yamaha EC 06 will be developed locally at River’s production facility in Hoskote, Karnataka. The electric scooter appears to be a heavily reworked version of the Indie, albeit with a few notable differences. River Indie is sold at a price point of Rs 1.46 lakh (ex-showroom), and hence we can expect the EC 06 to have a similar pricing.

Yamaha EC 06 flaunts a sharper and boxy design as compared to the Indie’s rounded styling. Some of the prominent features onboard the electric scooter are LED headlamp, disc brakes at both the ends, LED tail-lamp and coloured LCD display. It has an underseat storage capacity of 24.5 litres which is quite less than Indie’s 43 litre storage space.

The EC 06 is offered with a 4 kWh fixed battery pack which returns a range of 160 km on a full charge. The battery is linked to a 4.5 kW electric motor which produces maximum power output of 9 bhp. Yamaha claims that the EC 06 will take approx 9 hours for a complete juice up through the standard home plug-in charger, which makes it one of the longest charging times in the Indian e2w industry.

Yamaha EC 06 also comes with three ride modes namely Eco, Standard and Power, apart from the reverse mode. It also boasts of a built-in telematics unit with a SIM to get real-time connectivity and data access on the LCD instrument cluster. The EC 06 electric scooter has a top speed of 90 kmph, which is identical to River Indie. The chassis is also borrowed from the Indie.

Presented as a modern and premium lifestyle electric scooter, Yamaha EC 06 is claimed to deliver “smooth and responsive riding experience”. It is aimed at today’s young and tech-savvy trendsetters who embrace innovation, style, and sustainability. The company further stated that EC 06 is for riders who seek smart, reliable, and distinctive mobility solutions with an eco-conscious mindset.

Yamaha is the only mainstream ICE brand presently in India to not have an EV model in its portfolio as its arch rivals such as Bajaj, Hero, Honda, TVS and Suzuki have presence in this segment with the likes of Chetak EV, Vida VX2, Activa e:, iQube and e-Access, respectively. Hence, Yamaha is quite late to join this bandwagon but still people are glad that it is finally happening.
