Yamaha MT15 price is just Rs 3000 lesser than R15 which may disappoint a few but it is a feature-loaded motorcycle…
At an event in Noida today, Yamaha has officially launched the ‘Dark Side of Japan‘ MT15 in India. Essentially the naked version of the R15 version 3, MT15 joins its sibling in becoming the most powerful 150cc motorcycles available in India.
MT15 continues to be powered by the same 155cc, VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) equipped, liquid cooled, SOHC, 4-Valve, fuel injected engine. It produces 19.3 PS of peak power at 10,000 rpm and maximum torque of 14.7 Nm at 8500 rpm. This is exactly equal to the R15’s numbers and the compression ratio also remains 11.6:1. But there are minor tuning differences to enhance the low-mid range on the naked.
Prominent features of MT15 include Assist and Slipper Clutch, 140 mm wide rear tyre, predator-like LED front headlamps, 282 mm front disc with single-channel ABS etc. It weighs 138 kg and is equipped with a 10 liter tank.
The India-spec MT15 misses out on Upside down front forks of the international spec motorcycle. It also uses a box-section swingarm compared to the aluminium unit of the international-spec MT15 as well as the Indian R15 v3. Yamaha is offering the naked in two colour options – Metallic Black and Dark Matt Blue.
