The all-new commuter motorcycle from Bajaj Auto could be called the ‘Glider’ as it launches in the next fiscal in the Indian market
Bajaj Auto will have 10 new market launches in the coming 6 weeks in India, including two all-new Pulsar motorcycles in the 125-160cc segment which accounts for the majority of the sales. However, we have also learnt that Bajaj is planning to re-enter the 125cc commuter segment with an all-new model, which could be christened as the Glider. Bajaj Discover 125 was the company’s mass-market model in this highly popular segment, which was discontinued in 2020. The launch timeline is not clear yet but it is likely to take at least a year or so before the Glider 125 hits the Indian roads.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto, said during the recent earnings call, “We are looking at a different brand because the propositions will be – we mean the propositions more at this stage, but because the propositions will be different, we don’t want to sort of call them Pulsars.They will have a very specific angle to them, and they will be two different brands. And we hope to not just capture a bigger share of the 125cc plus segment.”
Bajaj Glider 125: What to Expect
The upcoming Bajaj 125cc commuter bike could be a great upgrade for the existing Platina 110 and CT110X owners. The brand had filed trademark for multiple new names a few months back such as the Glider, Freedom, Trekker, and the Marathon. Out of these, Freedom has already been used for the CNG-powered bike, while Marathon is likely to be a three-wheeler. As for the Trekker, it could be the upcoming adventure bike from Bajaj and hence, the commuter will be termed as the Glider.
Bajaj’s 125cc commuter bike could be priced around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom) due to higher localization. It will be up against the likes of Hero Super Splendor, Honda Shine 125, and TVS Raider 125. The commuter model will be sold alongside the Pulsar 125 in the brand’s portfolio as it goes on sale in FY28. For those asking, Bajaj will also launch its first all-electric motorcycle in the next financial year.
