TVS retained the topmost position in Aug 2025 while Bajaj slumped to fifth position amidst the rare earth magnets crisis
TVS Motor Company topped the EV sales in Aug 2025 by retailing a total of 24,087 units in the country. The Hosur-based two-wheeler brand improved its previous month’s numbers, which stood at 22,230 units and thereby registering a MoM sales growth of 8.35 percent. The second spot was occupied by Ola Electric, which bounced back to sell 18,972 units against 17,848 units in July 2025.
The third spot was grabbed by Ather Energy by leaving behind the likes of Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj Auto. The Bengaluru-based EV start-up had sales volumes of 17,856 units as compared to 13,313 and 11,730 units sold by Vida and Bajaj, respectively, in Aug 2025. The global shortage of rare earth magnets led to the downfall of Bajaj as it barely manufactured any units of the Chetak e-scooter in Aug 2025.
TVS iQube continued its golden run by outselling every other electric scooter in the Indian market. Recently, the company launched the mass-market low-cost Orbiter e-scooter in our country, and it is further likely to consolidate the brand’s position as the topmost EV brand by raking in decent numbers. TVS, presently, leads the e2w segment with a market share of over 23 percent.

While the shortage of rare earth magnets affected the production of Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy, Ola Electric seized the opportunity and became the second largest EV brand in India. Though Ather followed closely, but couldn’t outnumber the Bhavish Aggarwal-led EV start-up. We could see even more fierce competition between the two Bengaluru-based EV start-ups.
Hero Vida climbed up to the fourth spot with an exceptional MoM sales growth of 26.92 percent due to the launch of the highly affordable VX2 e-scooter. Moreover, Hero’s widespread sales network helped the brand reach the masses. In the coming months, we could see the Jaipur-based two-wheeler brand achieving new heights in the EV segment.
