TVS Readying a New 125 cc Scooter; To Be Launched Under New Brand Name

TVS is one of the few players in the market who have been able to make their automatic scooter business record decent numbers. The Jupiter being their best example! Ever since the rise of the Activa, the ‘Scooty’ has been experiencing a downfall. The company though now seems to be getting ready for another onslaught with a bigger 125 cc scooter.

A report in Autocar Professional cites unconfirmed sources which reveal that the two-wheeler maker is developing a 125 cc scooter. The report also adds that TVS might just launch this new scooter with a new brand name. The iconic ‘Scooty’ badging was so popular earlier that it became the standalone name for automatic scooters. A new name might just help them garner more sales.

There can be a possibility of continuing with the Jupiter badging, but this time TVS might just have something new in mind. The 125 cc segment is the currently a tiny part of the scooter sales. The bulk of the sales are eaten by the 110 cc scooters. Players like Honda and Suzuki did bring out the Activa 125 and Access 125, but the former has not been able to garner sales. The Access 125 has though, recorded decent numbers for Suzuki. The Vespas, thanks to their premium pricing, remain only as a niche player.

TVS is at present the third largest scooter maker in the country and are inching closer to Hero’s tally with each passing day. So will a 125 cc scooter help them bridge the gap further? Only time will tell!
