The cafe-racer is the fifth 400cc model from Triumph in the Indian market after Speed 400, Scrambler 400X, Speed T4, and Scrambler 400 XC.
Triumph India is all set to expand its 400cc range of motorcycles with a new cafe-racer model in the next few weeks. The new 400cc cafe-racer, christened by the media as Thruxton 400, has been spotted in all its glory ahead of the official launch. The clear images of the bike have emerged on the web which show it in a production-ready guise. The Thruxton 400 will be the fifth motorcycle in Triumph’s middleweight motorcycle portfolio in India after the Speed 400, Scrambler 400X, Speed T4, and Scrambler 400 XC.
The spy-images show Triumph Thruxton 400 cafe-racer in a red colour with silver stripes on the tank and front fairing. Needless to mention, it has been styled into a neo-retro cafe-racer model while taking cues from the bigger Speed Triple 1200 RR. The tail-light is also new and much simpler as compared to any other Triumph 400cc bike.

The rear cowl is offered in body colour while it appears to be interchangeable with a pillion seat as we can also spot a grab rail at the rear. It has been learnt that the Thruxton 400 would borrow the semi-digital instrument cluster from the Speed 400. It will be quite interesting to see what Triumph officially names it, as the Thruxton nameplate has been retired following the roll out of the Thruxton Final Edition.
Mechanically, Triumph 400 cafe-racer is likely to use the same 398cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled petrol engine which powers the other four motorcycles in the brand’s 400 line-up. It generates top power of 40 bhp and peak torque of 37.5 Nm while linked to a 6-speed gearbox. The hardware, cycle parts and frame will also be identical to the other Triumph 400cc bikes.

It is not the first time that the Triumph cafe-racer has been spotted testing on the Indian roads. In fact, it has been spied multiple times on camera during its test runs, albeit with heavy camouflage. However, this is the first instance when it has been captured in flesh and hence, it is quite likely that Triumph could launch it in the next few days in the Indian market.
It still remains to be seen how Triumph positions the cafe-racer model in terms of pricing among its other 400cc motorcycles. We expect the Thruxton 400 price around Rs 2.50-2.70 lakh (ex-showroom), if not more. It will not have a direct rival in the domestic market as the other cafe-racer models on sale come with bigger engine and exorbitant pricing.
