Triumph India has launched the new Thruxton R in India at a price tag of Rs 10.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The beautiful and elegantly carved body shows off the legacy of the manufacturer’s winning runs at the Isle of Man TT races back in the 60s and 70s. The name though is traced back to the legendary 500 mile Thruxton endurance race series which the Triumphs dominated. The Thruxton also went on to break the first 100mph lap at the Isle of man TT!
Powering the new generation Thruxton R is a 1,200 cc high power 8 valve mill which churns out 97 PS of maximum power at 6,750 rpm (41 per cent bump) and 112 Nm of peak torque at 4,950 rpm (62 per cent more torque than the previous version). Mated to this is a 6 speed gearbox. The engine features a lighter crank and an airbox unique to the Thruxton family. The cooling system, just like the rest of the new Bonneville family, is administered by a liquid cooled setup which not just helps in achieving cleaner emissions but is also 11 per cent more fuel efficient.
The Monza cap for the fuel tank makes the new Thruxton R the first modern production bike to sport one. ABS, ride by wire, traction control and torque assist clutch is standard in the new Bonneville range. However, unlike the T120, this one gets three riding modes (road, rain and sport). The twin pod instrumentation and LED tail light will engulf your mind in a mix of classic and modernity.
The Thruxton R also gets a more focused riding position, raised back end and thinner grips! The extra goodies include twin floating discs in the front by Brembo with monobloc callipers by the same brand, Showa upside down front forks, a rear setup by Ohlins and Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tyres all around.
Triumph will also be offering over 160 accessories to choose from which include a sculpted cockpit fairing and Vance & Hines exhausts.
