We visit Motoplex – the lifestyle store from Piaggio and the house of Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Vespa in Pune – the only one in India at the moment…
Situated on the Pune Nagar Highway is the Motoplex, a lifestyle store by the Piaggio group which homes exotics from Aprillia, Moto Guzzi and the versatile Vespa. Quite interesting it is when you step in, being greeted by the beaming smile of the door attendant and these fine machines. With what appears to be the display area and administrative department on the ground floor, make your way to the upper floor and the first question you would ask is, “what are the motorcycles doing in the coffee shop?”
Well actually… it is the other way around – adorning the wall alongside the end of the stairway we were greeted by two motorcycles on display while Nair Aunty’s Curry strummed out tunes (some their own compositions and some cover versions) much to the audience’s attention. In the centre was the cafe counter with a showcase with merchandise on display. Like the saying goes – “there’s one for everyone”; on display there were apparels from the Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Vespa families and leather jackets, all of them imported from Italy.
Flanked by a family member (Read two-wheeler) on each side what really caught my attention were the white walled tyres of the red Moto Guzzi California that stood in front of the coffee counter opposite the live band performance. In all of its sophistication lay its simplicity which no room for unnecessary bling; such is the presence of this Italian.

Leading the market, Vespa recently upsized their scooters to a 150cc mill and added a few bright colours too. While the “VXL” stood on the side overlooking the ground floor, perched on a ramp diagonally opposite stood a blue Vespa SXL. Having ridden its predecessor a few months back, the VXL was no different (first ride review coming up soon) in comfort but promised more.

While we worked our way through the lenses capturing the grandeur of a first of its kind store, it was time for a hot coffee and chips. Served in customized Motoplex Mugs, the coffee is no different from the brew of your favourite coffee shop and with the band in attendance it made a perfect way to start a Saturday night – Machines Music Coffee, what else could any enthusiast ask for? That warrants a visit surely…
