Suzuki has brought in an interesting offering in its Big Bike series in India – the V-Strom 800DE Adventure Tourer! The new V-Strom becomes the third bike in the premium portfolio for the brand, apart from the Hayabusa and the Katana.
Powering the mid-size ADV is a 776cc, parallel twin DOHC engine that has a 270 degree crankshaft. Suzuki has not specified the power and torque numbers for the motorcycle however the international spec model is rated at roughly 84 hp of power and 78 Nm of torque. Suzuki claims that the V-Strom has abundant torque and churns a pleasing sound same as Suzuki’s V-twin engines.
Prominent ADV traits include a 220 mm ground clearance (highest among all V-Strom models) – probably one of the most needed features in an ADV, 21-17 inch front-rear tyre combination and knobby tyres from Dunlop and wire spoke wheels. Additionally, you get inverted SHOWA forks at the front which can travel 220 mm (Rear also makes do with SHOWA monoshock). The 800DE comes with twin 310 mm disc brakes at the front.
The Suzuki’s mid-sizer has a bouquet of electronic aids such as Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS), Suzuki Traction Control (STSC), Bi-directional switchable Quick Shifter, two-mode anti-lock braking system, Ride-by-wire, Suzuki easy start system and something called as Low RPM assist.
