The Suzuki Gixxer twins are two gems in the premium 150 cc territory. The naked Gixxer has changed the company’s fortunes in India which were at a low due to a no-hit product in the lineup which were further pushed up by the new faired SF variant. Standing today, Gixxer’s sales have been rising for the last few months and at 8229 units, were best-ever in August!
However, despite everything, a rear disc brake variant was always missed, and more so when the competition provided it on their bikes, some standard! A drum unit is old and passe and an all-disc setup provides for better braking and more importantly, a little more conviction on the bike. And it looks like Suzuki has listened and it has been caught testing a new disc brake variant.
These pictures shared by Gaadiwaadi.com clearly show a white Gixxer SF with a rear disc brake. We do not see any other change on this mule. Designed in the same wind tunnel where Suzuki masters their MotoGP challenger and the Hayabusa, the bike shall continue with the same 154.9 cc engine producing 14.8 PS of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm.
There is an under-test naked Gixxer as well in the pictures and the report claims it also sports rear discs but they are not visible in the pics.
The Gixxer twins with a rear disc brake can be expected to be a few thousand rupees expensive than the standard variant and Suzuki may spice up things by launching it sometime within the festive season, very soon…
