Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Gets New Side Stand, Here’s Why

Royal Enfield has introduced an updated side stand for the Himalayan 450 with reduced lean angle for all the existing owners

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 was launched in Nov 2023 in the Indian market. The adventure bike is hailed as one of the most capable off-roaders in the country. However, the side stand of the Himalayan 450 had some particular issues, predominantly the higher leaning angle of the bike when parked. Now, we have learnt that the company has taken note of this and introduced an updated version with a straighter design to get rid of the excessive leaning of the motorcycle when the side stand is engaged.

Priced at Rs 3,250, the updated side stand will be available as retrofit for all the existing Himalayan 450 customers. It reduces the heavy leaning of the motorcycle which was a real pain for the owners with the current side stand. The Himalayan 450 tips the weighing scale at 196 kg and hence, it was difficult to disengage the side stand and lift the bike on uneven surfaces due to the steep leaning angle.

The updated side stand of the Himalayan 450 offers an upright resting position due to its less curvy design. It will be available at the company authorised dealerships across the country. However, we have heard that it has not reached to all the RE touchpoints as of now and hence, it is advisable to check once with your nearest Royal Enfield showroom to confirm the availability.

A few media reports indicate that Royal Enfield is planning to roll out the 2026 Himalayan 450 with the new side stand as standard fitment. However, there is no official word from the company yet on this. So, existing owners can visit their nearest RE dealer and get the updated side stand by paying Rs 3,250 as it will reach all the dealerships in India by next week.

Last year, Royal Enfield had hiked the price of cross-spoke wheels for Himalayan 450 from Rs 12,424 to Rs 40,645. However, this was only for the existing owners as the rate for new customers remained the same at Rs 11,000. Due to its off-roading nature, customers prefer spoked wheels over alloy wheels, fitted with tubeless tyres. It rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels.

Some of the notable features onboard the Himalayan 450 are switchable ABS, multiple riding modes and ride-by-wire system. It is retailed in five colour options in the form of Kaza Brown, Slate Himalayan Salt, Slate Poppy Blue, Kamet White, and Hanley Black. The adventure bike is equipped with a 452cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled petrol engine which generates max power of 39 bhp and highest torque of 40 Nm, while linked to a 6-speed gearbox.
