Pulsar 220 – One Year Since Re-Launch How Is It Doing?

I take a quick look at Pulsar 220 sales after its re-introduction in the Indian market early last year. Here are the numbers…

Everybody knows that Pulsar 220 – the motorcycle with the vertically-stacked projector headlamps and semi-fairing – is a super hit! Few years ago, it was, in fact, the largest selling big Pulsar in Bajaj’s line-up. In order to let the new-generation models take a sigh of relief, Bajaj has been wanting to axe it and it eventually did around 2022.

There was a bunch of people inside that were never happy about this decision and there wasn’t an official word about the Pulsar 220’s discontinuation in the market. However, within a few months Bajaj had to retract and change its decision – like it has done many a times earlier, and the Pulsar 220 was re-launched in the market around February 2023 last year. That makes it a year of the motorcycle’s (re)presence in the market and no better time to review how is it doing!

2024 Pulsar NS200 Launched at 1.58 Lac; Gets 3 New Features

Pulsar 220 sales

According to the official SIAM data, the Pulsar 220 has registered total sales of 61,584 units in the last twelve months since its re-introduction – which is an average of 5132 units a month. These are phenomenal numbers for a motorcycle that has been in the market since the last 14-15 years – without any changes to the styling. In the process, it has outsold many motorcycles around this segment.

As I had said earlier (here), the idea is to present this 200 as a value offering and take the tech-laden NS range higher up the pedestal with newer features – and keep the newest generation of Pulsars somewhere in between. And clearly this is working for Bajaj. There is something about the Pulsar 220 that people get attracted towards it – and now it will be the price quotient that will be the prime selling point of the 220.
