Piaggio has a niche clientele in India for its premium automatic scooters under the Vespa brand. While the company has been registering steady growth in the Indian market, it is still at a very nascent stage. In an interesting update, Piaggio’s 3-wheeled scooter MP3 has been snapped in India on the Mysore Bangalore highway.
MP3 is a three wheeled scooter which can stop at a red light like a car and you do not have to put your foot down! It has been launched in the international market with various engine displacements which include 125cc, 250cc, 300 cc, 400 cc and 500 cc. A hybrid variant of the scooter is also available which uses regenerative braking to charge the batteries.
The front suspension can be locked or unlocked manually via a switch located right below the throttle. This screengrab you see here is from the video posted by UrbanHack. It can easily manage to zip through traffic and dash from stops.
In electric mode it can go up to 18 km at a maximum speed of 32 kmph. With both the petrol and electric motor running the MP3 can dash around like a quarter litre vehicle for 25 minutes!
As per Zauba, the company did import a 125cc hybrid variant of the scooter to India back in December last year for R&D purposes. While the imported unit had a price tag of Rs 5,40,999, this scooter, if it is really being prepared for our market, will not come cheap.
So, how about it..? A 3-wheeled scooter…will you consider buying one..?
