Ola S1 Z, Gig Electric Scooter Deliveries Delayed – Report

Ola Electric has delayed the deliveries of the S1 Z and Gig/Gig+ electric scooters to an unspecified date due to focus on Roadster motorcycle.

Ola Electric led by Bhavish Aggarwal has postponed the deliveries of the S1 Z and Gig/Gig+ electric scooters in the domestic market. The reason behind delaying the deliveries is focusing on the Roadster electric motorcycle. The company said that it will also work on streamlining the cost structure and sales across its dealership network in India. Ola S1 Z and Gig/Gig+ e-scooters were launched in Nov 2024 while deliveries were slated to commence from April-May 2025 across the country. The new delivery timeline has not been announced by Ola yet.

“We are delaying the S1 Z, Gig/Gig+ and some other future products and will sequentially launch these products such that each product receives the right customer mindshare,” Ola Electric Chairman and Managing Director Bhavish Aggarwal told investors. Ola S1 Z and S1 Z+ were introduced at price points of Rs 59,999 and Rs 64,999, respectively, in the country.

“Our focus right now is the Roadster platform, which is Roadster X, X Plus, and then the Roadster itself, Roadster and Arrowhead. The Gig, Gig Plus, Z, as well as the three-wheeler platforms will be a little later,” Aggarwal said. As for the B2B e-scooters Gig and Gig+, they were touted to be the most affordable Ola electric models at just Rs 39,999 and Rs 49,999, respectively.

Earlier this year, Ola Electric had to face the ire of customers due to a prolonged delay in the deliveries of the Roadster electric motorcycle. Being introduced in Feb 2025, it was supposed to reach the dealer outlets by mid-March for test rides while deliveries were expected to start shortly thereafter. However, after multiple delays, the bikes were finally delivered to a few initial customers on May 23.

“Our focus now is to increase productivity, sales productivity as well as sales per store of these stores that we have opened up. That is the focus for this quarter, as well as for the next couple of quarters. And this becomes increasingly relevant with our bike [Roadster] coming into the markets,” Aggarwal said. Ola Roadster X is available in three battery pack options namely 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh and 4.5 kWh with a range of 140 km, 196 km and 252 km, respectively.

Ola Electric has been rapidly losing its market share to conventional ICE players such as TVS and Bajaj. It was recently dethroned from the position of top-selling EV brand in India as volumes dropped substantially in all the four quarters of FY25. The company presently claims to have 4000 functional showrooms across the country.
