Bajaj Chetak EV will receive its biggest update later this month since its debut in 2020 in the Indian market
Bajaj Chetak EV was launched nearly four years back in 2020 in the Indian market. Though initially the e-scooter had a lazy start, sales started to pick up after the first two years. It is now in the top 3 electric scooters in India, as evident by the sales data available. Bajaj Auto is now ready with the next-generation model of the Chetak which is expected to go on sale in the coming couple of weeks. The new-gen Bajaj Chetak EV price will be at par with the ongoing model which comes in a range of Rs 96,000 – 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom).
Due to the generational change, it is going to be the biggest update for the Chetak electric scooter so far in the country. The company’s primary focus is towards enhancing practicality which translates into extending the storage area and boot capacity akin to its foes such as Ather Rizta, Ola S1 and TVS iQube.
It is learnt that the new-gen Bajaj Chetak EV will get a new chassis under the floorboard to offer extra space for the buyers. The brand might also introduce a newly-designed battery pack to achieve longer range on a single charge. Though we do not expect a drastic rise in the range even if the battery pack is presented in a new design. Just so you know, the ongoing model of Chetak EV has a range between 123 km and 137 km.
The overall design of the new-gen Chetak EV is believed to be retained from the current model. However, we might get to see a couple of new colour choices but that will be it in the design aspect. Feature-wise, the new-gen Chetak EV will carry on with most of the existing bells and whistles.
Bajaj Auto retailed 174,909 units of the Chetak EV between January-November 2024, which is a hike of 184 percent on YoY sales. It has been involved in a fierce battle with TVS iQube for the number 2 spot in the Indian market. The Nov 2024 sales data revealed that the Chetak EV and iQube had a narrow gap of only 808 units. The company sold a total of 26,163 units of the Chetak EV in Nov 2024.
Bajaj Chetak EV has a market share of 16 percent in the electric scooter segment in India in the period between Jan-Nov 2024, which is a massive jump from the 4 percent share it had in Jan-Nov 2023. TVS Motor Company is slightly ahead with 19 percent market share during the Jan-Nov 2024 period.
