New Triumph Bonneville with 350cc Engine in Works – Details

Triumph Bonneville will be powered by a newly-developed 350cc liquid-cooled engine as it is being prepared for a launch around June 2026

We recently told you that Triumph was impacted the most by the introduction of the GST 2.0 in the Indian market as its entire model line-up comes with engine capacity of more than 350cc. However, the British brand absorbed the price hike, occurring due to the GST rationalization as it placed motorcycles with engines over 350cc in 40 percent tax slab from the existing 28 percent. But, sources tell us that absorbing the price hike is a temporary step as Triumph is planning something big, which includes rolling out a 350cc engine for its entire 400 portfolio consisting of five models.

Triumph retails five models in the 400 range namely Speed T4, Speed 400, Scrambler 400X, Scrambler 400 XC and Thruxton 400. In the next 6-8 months, all of these motorcycles will be offered with a 350cc engine to get the 18 percent GST benefits, which will subsequently make them cheaper and close to arch rival Royal Enfield’s Hunter 350, Classic 350, Bullet 350 and Meteor 350.

The latest we have heard is that Triumph is also planning to launch a sixth model in the 400 range in the form of the Bonneville. However, it will not carry the existing 398cc engine, instead it is all set to become the first company model to be equipped with the newly-developed 350cc petrol engine. Triumph Bonneville 350 will launch around June 2026 while locking horns directly with Royal Enfield Classic 350.

Triumph’s Bonneville models are largely applauded due to the classic design, massive bodywork and retro charm. We can expect the smallest Bonnie to be built on similar lines and get these elements in abundance. It will be locally developed by Bajaj at its Chakan factory in Pune alongside the other 350cc Triumph badged bikes.

Though details are scarce at the moment, we believe the Bonneville 350 to feature a redeveloped rear sub-frame and bigger swingarm in order to adjust the large bodywork. The Bonneville 350 is likely to ride on wire-spoke wheels with tubeless tyres, something that we have already seen on Triumph Scrambler 400 XC and Royal Goan Classic 350.

The new 350cc liquid-cooled engine will be carved out of the existing 398cc motor by lowering down the bore size while retaining the stroke. It is believed to offer better torque performance in low and mid range. The power output will come down from the current 39.5 bhp, but it will be adequate for a 350cc bike and will not feel underpowered.
