The design patent filed by Hero MotoCorp for an electric dirt bike has been leaked online and it suggests a model based on the Lynx concept
Hero MotoCorp recently launched two new motorcycles in the Indian market in the form of Xpulse 210 and Xtreme 250R. The brand is also working aggressively on expanding its electric vehicle portfolio under the Vida sub-brand. It rolled out the Vida V2 e-scooter in December last year. Now, it has been learnt that Hero has filed a design patent for an electric dirt bike, which has been leaked online. Just so you know, Hero MotoCorp has an alliance with America-based Zero Motorcycles which is renowned globally for developing premium electric motorcycles.
It was reported last year that the first electric motorcycle emerging out of partnership between Hero and Zero is in advanced stages of development and could go on sale in early 2026. It was believed to be positioned in the middleweight segment. However, the leaked design patent indicates an electric dirt bike with elements like sleek seat, higher stance, traditional swingarm and a tubular handlebar.
Upon close inspection, we can also see the new Hero electric dirt bike with a high-mounted front fender, plastic lever guards and negligible side panels. It can be stated with utmost certainity that if at all this new model sees the daylight, it will not be road-legal due to the omission of several components.
The leaked design patent further shows that the battery pack is placed at the front while the electric motor could be mid-mounted with a chain drive setup. The frame is suspended by adjustable front forks with long travel and rear monoshock unit. The stopping power is provided by disc brakes at front and rear, which are placed on the spoke wheels.
Hero had unveiled two electric dirt bikes in concept form under the Vida brand at the EICMA 2023. The first model Lynx inspired by the wild cats of the same name was said to have brisk acceleration with its light weight while the second product Acro was for kids between 3-9 years. The leaked design patent of the electric dirt bike could well be the Lynx or heavily inspired by the Lynx.
Hero Lynx electric dirt bike weighed 80 kg in concept form while equipped with a 3 kWh battery pack and an electric motor generating 20 bhp. It was not confirmed by the company whether the Lynx will make it to production or not. But with this leaked patent, it can be stated that Hero is gradually readying the motorcycle for its market debut.
