The Navi, carries a mix of the attributes of a scooter, moped and motorcycle, was introduced to bring a change in the world of automatic scooters. Guess when you are the market leader (that too by such a large margin) you have the freedom to experiment. The Navi is just that. So what’s up with the.. er, scooter?
We spoke to Honda’s management recently at a press conference and they told us that the Navi has already sold 5,000 units, from the 7 cities it has been made available so far. It also boasts of a handsome booking backlog of more than a couple of thousand units. They intend to increase the availability to 35 cities by the end of June. Using a top down approach the Navi was first introduced in bigger cities and will be taken to smaller ones in this phase.
Pan India availability will happen only by the festive season. The Honda supremo also told BikeAdvice that they are working on bringing more customisation options to the Navi. The concept models showcased at the Auto Expo are also under development however, he did not reveal any launch time frame for the same. He also confirmed that there indeed is a Navi 2 in the books. Sadly though a 125 cc version is not in the cards!
Honda also has plans to export the Navi to our neighbouring nations in the future but the attention will be first given to the domestic market.
So what exactly is the Navi? Yes, we asked Mr YS Guleria this popular question once again and the answer was fitting:
“Whatever it is, it is Fun!
