Just Before India, TRK 502 & Tornado Launched in Malaysia; Gives Pricing Idea…

DSK Benelli showcased the very interesting mid-capacity adventure tourer TRK 502 as well as the sports Tornado 302R at the 2016 Auto Expo. Ever since then their Indian launch has been getting delayed. The latest word out there is that, at least, the Tornado 302R is coming next month and it has received the mandatory ARAI approvals.

But before all of this, Benelli has launched both the motorcycles in Malaysia.

Price Analysis

TRK 502

The TRK 502, which is offered in three variants, starts at RM 30,621 (4.5 Lakh in INR) just under the chief competitor there, Honda CB500X. It has been placed just over the inline four cylinder TNT 600i (RM 29,499). However, we believe it will be the opposite here.

In all probability, the TRK 502 will be placed under the 600i, simply because if they replicate the Malaysian scenario, they are moving very close to the 600 GT and putting two tourers very close to each other. We are expecting an under 5 Lakh price tag for the TRK 502 in India.

Tornado 302R

Malaysia gets three colours of the Tornado

The 302R has been priced at RM 23,201 (3.40 Lakhs in INR) which undercuts its chief rival Ninja 300 handsomely. As compared to its naked sibling TNT 300, which costs RM 18,990, there is a significant premium (of nearly 60,000 INR) Benelli is charging for the Tornado. If it is a similar strategy followed in India, do NOT expect the Tornado to be priced at a significant difference with the Ninja 300!

The TRK, one of the most awaited motorcycle in India, produces 47 hp of peak power and 45 Nm of torque from its liquid cooled 500cc motor. It gets 320 mm twin disc brakes at the front and 260 mm rear disc brake. ABS is standard and switchable. The big USP of the bike is its 20 liters of fuel tank which should give it a tourer-kind of a range! Hard case panniers and top box are on offer as optional.
