Press Release

New Delhi, January 24, 2012: Bajaj Auto Limited and KTM Sportmotorcycle AG today announced the much awaited launch of the KTM brand in India. Known for their legendary racing achievements, KTM is Europe’s second largest motorcycle manufacturer and dominates the off-road segment across the world. KTM debuts in India with its premium streetbike brand, the DUKE. The first offering from the KTM stable in India, the Duke 200 would be retailed through 34 dedicated KTM stores in India along with KTM’s famous range of Accessories and Merchandise called KTM PowerWear and KTM PowerParts.

In a segment crowded with full-faired Japanese motorcycles, the KTM 200 Duke will be the only one sporting the naked streefighter styling that all KTM Dukes, like the Super Duke 990 and the Duke 690, are renowned for. The 200 Duke will be powered by a single cylinder, 200cc, liquid cooled, DOHC, four valve engine which will pump out a peak power of 25bhp and a maximum torque of 19 Nm. Like all KTM’s the 200 Duke has the best–in-class power to weight ratio of 184 Ps/ton thanks to high strength- low weight components of the highest quality. It features first in class features such as a Trellis Frame, Upside Down forks by European specialists WP, an aluminium swing arm, a multifunction cockpit and many more.

Packed with technology and features befitting motorcycles of far higher segments, the KTM 200 Duke has been launched at an extremely attractive introductory price of Rs.1,17,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

On the occasion of the launch Mr. Stefan Pierer, CEO of KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG, said “We are delighted to have the Duke 200 in India and are very positive about the prospects of KTM in the Indian market. With our unique design and engineering philosophy, we have managed to develop our unique brand identity which we are confident that our customers in India will appreciate ”

Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, MD Bajaj Auto, said “The launch of the Duke 200 is one of the many steps in Bajaj Auto’s association with KTM over the last five years. Between the Bajaj Pulsar and the KTM Duke we intend to further strengthen our dominant position in the sports motorcycle segment in India. The KTM 200 Duke is meant for people who are young at heart and like to be different.“

  1. The Duke 125 will most probably not be launched in India considering it will be too expensive for a 125cc bike in India, As most of the 125cc bikes in India are presently priced at a sub- 50,000 price point. The Duke 125 would most probably be priced a lot more than that.

  2. Problems for CBR150 and CBR250 too. Though the absence of cowling will make achieving high speeds difficult, it looks like a great stunts bike. Kudos to Bajaj for bringing it to india 🙂

  3. Is it a sporty bike or general purpose road bike?

Max speed & Peak up not mentioned.

Will it be suerior to Pulsar 220 or Yamha fazer or R 15?

  4. Without doubt this KTM 200 is a much better bike to buy than Yamaha R15 for the given price.
Now R15 needs a farewell, and I feel Yamaha will have to launch a higher cc bike to be seen in the performance arena.

    good move from Bajaj.

  5. Its a super cool bike and made for one can beat this machine…having best power to weight ratio under 250cc bike segment..performance(on/off road) 10/10, looks 8/10, price 9/10, millage would be the key factor. guys wait n watch ..will really broooommm the indian market

  6. deepak picture could hv been better when other sites hv nicer ones.i still think R15 v 2.0 has the killer looks with wow performance.CBR250 believe me is not for folks below 5’6.Its way too big !!!150 will suit rest.Bajaj is all about pricing & i dont think this will offer anything better than cc or price.

  7. Great launch, Kudos Bajaj…and Welcome to KTM…should be the right choice for a long race at such an enticing price tag with superb technology..anxious to hear more from KTM’s stable 🙂

  8. I am no big fan of R15 nor am I impressed with their build quality. But just consider the fact that R15 with its 150cc 17Ps engine and 136Kg weight can pull off to a top speed of 137Km/h whereas KTM with same weight (so an obvious advantage of power to weight ratio over R15) can reach only the same speed not more. Of course KTM with its 19.2Nm torque will be quicker on regular roads than R15, but once it crosses 100kmph mark, aerodynamics will come to play where R15 has an obvious advantage….there is no point in comparing a sports bike with a street bike though. Considering the inverted front shock absorbers and a forged compact swing arm, KTM has better value for money.

  9. I think only area where CBR250 scores is top speed & presence of fairing, which to some is required in touring. For rest of the folks, this is the real deal, KTM’s are such intense & focussed bikes, the more you ride them, the more you feel you need them forever. R15 is really needs a price cut now. CBR150, I don’t think there is any point in launching it when R15 itself is under attack from Duke 200 & the upcoming P200, which surely is going to be priced below 1 lakh.

  10. This bike got the FI tech. One needs to surrender the bike to bajaj service centers for their pathetic service. Local mechanics no matter how experience and good they are wont work with this machine. Its a good idea to launch another carb version of this bike.

Anyway nice price tag and different looking machine. Can be compared to CBR250.

  11. Guys,

Pls kindly understand one thing, R15 is totally differ from Duke. Unexpectedly you cannot ride duke in racing tracks like R15. I agree one thing ., that ktm is good. Power specification is also good. But do not underestimate the japanese. Finally i would like inform about Bajaj Pulsar. Pleeez pleez kindly don’t compare that pulsar with R15,Cbr250 even with zma. Pulsar – Very Worst. I am in chennai. I will have to inform about the pulsar’s worst riding experience in race track. Actually pulsar got disqualified for race track. It couldnt even compete with rtr (rip the road). If any one has pulsar or avenger etc…… Kindly throw that to the scrapyards. A Good rider will not love pulsar. I mean the worst use and throw.

  12. Hey Guys,

KTM duke 200 in bangalore cost 1.37 K, down payment is reduced to 20 K….. we have only one color Amber with black,
cant stop commenting on performance 25 hp for 200 CC, its amazing…. booked it already but counting ma days for the delivery 82 days to go………
    Go KTM …………

  13. y do this ppl r comparing all diff kinda byks… r15 is baby boy, 150cc 17bhp… 250cbr has got much more than that.. around 27hp… p200 p200ns p220 r not made as racing byks… in india any way bajaj is winner as on date… ktm brings an addon to dem… bajaj byks got the power wid economy… and bottom line is rider wins race, racing r done in same segment wid equal power… showing off is diff things….

  14. Ktm is a beast as no beauty can beat it,nd guys pls dnt cmpare d cbr150 or r15 with the beast.the 200ns has almost same power nd ridng quality bt 200ns is a that it wont b gud 4 much longer shud go for ktm.than 200ns…KTM rockz
