The quarter litre motorcycle segment is surely getting more exciting with each passing day. And believe me, right now it’s all Japanese and a bit of Austrian (if you can give me the leeway to consider their Duke 200s). And the Brits (Daytona 250R) are still some time away!
Nonetheless, after a lot of spyshots and speculations, Kawasaki has finally launched the naked Z250 SL in Indonesia amid much fanfare. The ‘Super Lightweight’ (as Kawasaki would like to call it) is the streetfighter version of the faired Ninja 250RR mono. The bike surprisingly weighs just 148 kilograms!!!
The liquid cooled, fuel injected, single cylinder mill produces 27.6BHP of power and a peak torque of 23Nm and is mated with a six speed transmission. The rear suspension is a Uni-track linkage system, featuring a five way pre-loaded adjustment settings, while the front has a 37mm telescopic fork. A 263mm front disc with two callipers and a 193mm rear disc with a single calliper should ideally offer a fairly decent stopping power, add to that the optional ABS!
The Z250 SL is targeted towards the enthusiast urban commuter who wants a nimble everyday motorcycle which would not cost him his kidneys and will also give him a good shot of adrenaline whenever he wants by just a twist of the throttle. The Z250 SL with its high set handle bars, which are also pretty wide, should translate to easy handling on the streets, so those tiring traffic jams can be powerfully dealt with! The ten spoke alloy wheels and tiny rear lamp unit lend it some smart looks…

Here are the prices for you…
- Kawasaki Z250SL non-ABS: 38.9 million Indonesian Rupiah (~2.03 Lakh INR)
- Kawasaki Z250SL ABS: 44.9 million Indonesian Rupiah (~2.34 Lakh INR)
Though we do not have any confirmed bit but we do expect Kawasaki to consider launching it in India considering the huge practicality and potential this machine (along with the faired 250RR Mono) will have here. These single cylinder Kawasaki twins can give some real competition to the KTM Duke 200, Honda CBR 250R, the upcoming RC 200 and the Hero HX250R!
