The spy images of a new KTM adventure bike indicates that a successor to the highly successful 390 Adventure is being readied.
KTM has been ruling the middleweight adventure segment for the last few years with the 390 Adventure in the Indian market. The updated 2025 KTM 390 Adventure was launched earlier this year with several modern features and a more powerful engine. However, a few spy pictures have leaked on the internet claiming that KTM has already begun work on the 390 Adventure’s successor, and it could be even more powerful in the form of the 490 Adventure with a twin-cylinder engine. Well, we are equally perplexed at the thought of KTM replacing the 390 Adventure as we assume you are!
Before talking about the new adventure model in the spy pics, let’s explore the present range of KTM 390 Adventure which has the X variant as the entry-level model at a price point of Rs 3.04 lakh (ex-showroom). Then, we have the standard 390 Adventure at Rs 3.68 lakh (ex-showroom). The 390 Enduro R has been smartly positioned between the X and standard variants of the 390 Adventure at Rs 3.39 lakh (ex-showroom).

Now, coming to the spy images, we can see a KTM ADV bike which several sections of the media claim as the new 790 Adventure. However, it appears unlikely due to several noticeable elements in the motorcycle. First things first, there is a single front disc brake which doesn’t add up to claims of a 790 ADV bike as motorcycles above the 390 range require a dual-disc brake setup at front to tackle the power and weight.
It looks rather impractical to offer a single unit front disc on a 200 kg bike with power output of around 100bhp. Furthermore, the parallel twin-cylinder engine in the spy images looks too small for a 790cc motorcycle. In fact, the size of the engine casings when compared with the barrel appears to be quite compact for a 790 Adventure. Also, the exhaust pipe is too tiny to fit in a 790cc bike.

Design-wise, we cannot see the 790’s signature droopy ear fuel tank in these images. Though it is safe to assume that the testing team could have removed it from the mule and might install it later, we do not see a place where it could be mounted to the bike seen in the pics. Hence, it strengthens the belief, contrary to popular opinions on the web, that the spied bike is certainly a 390 Adventure successor.
The possibilities of KTM readying a potential rival to the upcoming BMW F450 GS cannot be ignored entirely. And hence, KTM could name it as 490 Adventure, going by its existing nomenclature. We might see this new KTM adventure motorcycle breaking cover at the EICMA 2025 which is around the corner in a few months from now. Stay tuned to this page for more updates on the same.
