Indonesia March Two Wheeler Sales down by 12.8%

World’s third largest two wheeler market Indonesia has shown major fall in two wheeler sales for the month of March 2012 after having single digit growth in February 2012. There are total 6,19,678 units sold in the Month of March 2012 which is down by 12.8 % compared to 7,10,635 units sold in the March 2011 as reported by Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI).  On the month on month basis the country has registered 7% fall in two wheeler sales. The sales is led by Japanese manufacturer Honda followed by Yamaha, Suzuki and others.

The first quarter of 2012 has registered a fall of 2.73%. The country saw sales of 19,31,677 units of two wheeler sold during the period compared to 19,85,800 two wheeler sold during the same period last year. The country has registered de growth for the month of January and March. Only in the month of February it shows growth of 9.2% where it sold 6,66,136 units compared to 6,10,182 units in February 2011.

This is a cause of concern for Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) as it target to sell 9 million units this year. With the recent earth quake in the month of April it seems that the fall in sales will continue for this month also. This is cause of concern for Honda and Yamaha as Indonesia contributes larger pie of their worldwide sales.
