India’s First CNG Scooter Launch Likely in 2026

TVS Jupiter is likely to become India’s first CNG powered scooter when it goes on sale by mid 2026 in the country

TVS Motor Company unveiled the Jupiter CNG in the starting of this year at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi. It has been close to a year and we haven’t heard much about the scooter. However, reliable sources tell us that TVS Jupiter CNG will go on sale by mid 2026. Touted as the world’s first CNG-powered scooter, it was presented in concept form at the 2025 BMGE. Presently, Bajaj Auto is the only two-wheeler brand in the world to retail a CNG motorcycle in the form of the Freedom 125.

The Jupiter CNG concept is based on the 125cc ICE-powered version of the scooter. It houses the same single-cylinder petrol engine with power output of 7.1 bhp and peak torque of 9.4 Nm. It can clock a top speed of 80 kmph while offering the convenience of instantly switching between the fuels. TVS claims that it has a running cost of less than Re 1 per km.

The CNG fuel tank of 1.4 litres is positioned beneath the seat with a pressure gauge while the conventional petrol tank of 2 litres capacity is placed on the floorboard. As per the official info, TVS Jupiter CNG mileage will be around 84 km/kg. The scooter can cover a maximum distance of up to 226 km when both petrol and CNG tanks are completely juiced up.

In terms of design, the Jupiter CNG looks identical to the standard version, except for the CNG badging. We expect TVS to offer a plethora of modern and advanced features with the scooter, as has been the trend with its recent model launches. Upon launch, it will have no direct rival in the Indian market as no other brand currently offers CNG in scooters in the country.

Meanwhile, TVS Motor Company is gearing up for the EICMA 2025, which begins from Nov 4 in Milan, Italy. The company has already teased a middleweight adventure motorcycle for the event which is based on the 450cc engine platform of the BMW F 450 GS. Though it cannot be entirely ruled out, the Jupiter CNG might make an appearance at the Motor Show in Italy.
