Indian Bikes Sales Figure November 2011

Hero MotoCorp.: Hero MotoCorp. the world’s no. 1 two wheeler company has posted growth of 27.39% in the month of November 2011 compared to November 2010.  The company has sold 5,36,772 units of two wheeler in the month of November 2011 compared to 4,21,366  units of two wheeler sold in the month of November 2010. This is by far company’s highest ever sales for November till the date. On the month on month basis the sales is up by 4.77%. The company sold 5,12,338 units in the month of October 2011.  Hero Honda Pleasure is continuously crossing 35,000 units a month mark. The company has reported sales of 41,22,962 units for the period of April to November 2011 up by 19.61% compared to 34,46,872 units during the same period last year.

Hero MotoCorp Senior Vice President (Marketing and Sales), Mr Anil Dua, commented “We have been maintaining five lakh plus sales since August 2011, when we had launched our new brand identity. This 27 per cent growth in the post festive month of November is significant as it comes after our record retail sales in the month of October. The company plans to continue with its strategy of regular new launches and network expansion.”

The first eight months figure suggest that the company will easily achieve its 6 million units target if not exceed it. The company has launched its new on road off road motorcycle Impulse under its new brand identity Hero. The company is also looking for establishing fourth plant which will become operational by second half of financial year 2012-13. Beside this the company is looking to expand its present capacity of 6.15 million units to 7.0 million units.

Bajaj Auto

Country’s second largest two wheeler maker, Bajaj Auto has reported growth of 25.25% in the month of November 2011. The company has sold 3,31,967 units of motorcycle in the month of November 2011 compared to 2,65,036 units in the month of November 2010. This is by far company’s highest ever monthly sales for November month in company’s history. The company exported 1,29,256 units in the month of November 2011 up by 42.26% compared to 90,869 units in the month of November 2010.

On the month on month basis sales is down by 5.44%. The company sold 3,51,083 units in the month of October 2011. The company’s total sales stood at 3,74,477 units in the month of November 2011 up by 25.15% compared to 2,99,231 units in the month of November 2010. The company has sold 26,73,458 units of two wheeler during April to November 2011 period up by 15.90% compared to 23,06,697 units sold during the same period last year. Combined sales of brand Pulsar have crossed 5 million marks which is remarkable for Bajaj Auto.

Although November, saw good sales for Bajaj Auto, Rajiv Bajaj MD of Bajaj Auto is not happy with figures. According to him, the company needed to work hard to achieve this figure and hence he is not happy qualitatively with these figures. The company is aiming to sale 4.6 million units in this financial year with 4.1 million units of motorcycle.  The company is aiming to sale over a million units of Pulsars and 1.7 million units of Discover in the financial year 2011-12. The half year figure suggest that the company may do 4.5 million units in total which is 0.1 million less than its target.

TVS Motors

TVS Motors has posted growth of 12.36% in the month of November 2011. The company has sold around 1,72,829 units in the month of November 2011 compared to 1,53,822 units sold in the month of November 2010. Total sales stood at 1,75,535 units in the month of November 2011 up by 11.78% compared to 1,57,041 units sold in the same period last year.  On the month on basis the company’s sales is down by 3.99%. The company sold 1,80,006 units of two wheeler in the month of October 2011.

Domestic sales stood at 1,50,406  units in the month of November 2011 up by  7.79% compared to 1,39,541 units sold in the month of November 2010. Export stood at 24,271 units in the month of November 2011 up by 53.13% compared to 15,850 units sold in November 2010. The company sold 44,301 units of scooter in the month of November 2011 up by 22.27% compared to 36,233 units of scooter sold in the month of November 2010.  Motorcycle sales stood at 62,603 units in the month of September 2011 down by 0.62% compared to 62,995 units sold in the month of November 2010. Moped sales stood at 65,925 units in the month of November 2011. The company has sold 14,70,088 units during April 2011 to November 2011 period up by 11.65% compared to 13,16,743 units in the same period last year.

“As a result of lower overall economic growth, high inflation, increased fuel prices and interest rates, we expect some moderation in the growth of two wheelers over the next three to six months. Hence we did not want to increase trade stocks. Consequently billing for the month is lower than our initial indication,” TVS Motor said in a statement.

TVS Motors motorcycle sale is stagnating now. The company is pushing well on moped front. The company is also bullish on export front and exploring new opportunities to expand its export market. The company has set goal of selling 2.4 million units in this financial year.

HMSI

India’s largest scooter manufacturing company Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd reported sales growth of 53.64% in the month of November 2011. The company reported sales of 1,99,154 units in the month of November 2011 compared to 1,26,627 units in the November 2010. On month on month basis the company’s sales grew by 11.77%. The company sold 1,78,181 units in the month of October 2011.

Motorcycle sale is up by 32.82% in the month of November 2011. The company sold 79,724 units in the month of November 2011 compared to 60,025 units in the month of November 2010. On the other hand Scooter sale is up by whopping 71.59%. The company sold 1,19,430 units of scooter in the month of November 2011 compared to 69,601 units in the month of November 2010. The company has sold 13,00,314 units during the April 2011 to November 2011 period up by 18.88% compared to 10,93,798 units sold in the same period last year.

HMSI is now gained number three position. As expected sales is increasing on the month on month basis now. Scooter number for HMSI has grown at the rate of 72% this month which suggests continuous capacity expansion. The higher growth rate is also attributed to continuous strong performance in scooter segment. The company has started building its third plant in Narsapur Industrial area, 52 Km away from Banglore, Karnatak to expand it’s capacity to 4 million units by mid 2013.

Yamaha India

Yamaha India has reported sales growth of 29.20% in the month of November 2011 compared to November 2010. Total sales stood at 39,162 units in the month of November 2011 compared to 30,310 units last year in the same period. Month on month basis the sales is down by 20.62%. The company sold 47,240 units in the October 2011. Domestic sales stood at 28,178 units in the month of November 2011 up by 24.08% compared to 22,710 units in the month of November 2010. Export stood at 10,984 units in the month of November 2011 up by 44.53% compared to 7,600 units in the month of November 2010. During April to November 2011 the company sold 3,17,434 units up by 32.35% compared to 2,39,850 units sold in the same period last year.

Commenting on the results, Mr. Jun Nakata, Director-Sales & Marketing, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd., said, “We are very happy with the consistent sales growth that we’ve been witnessing this year. The new YZF-R15 Version 2.0 along with FZ & SZ series is driving our sales in both domestic and export markets. We plan to reach out to customers in tier II & tier III cities and are expanding our sales & service network in these regions. Our efforts towards enhancing our relationship with our esteemed customers through various initiatives like the Yamaha Safe Riding Science, R15 One Make Race Championships and the Sales & Service camps have also been very fruitful

The company has recently launched version 2.0 of its flagship motorcycle YZF-R15. The company is aiming to sell 5,00,000 units in this financial year with 3,50,000 units of domestic sales and 1,50,000 units of export. The company is also planning to launch scooter in this financial year.

Suzuki Motorcycle

Suzuki Motorcycle India reported growth of 23.11% in the month of November 2011 compared to November 2010. The company’s total sales stood at 31,332 units in the month of November 2011 compared to 25,450 units in the month of November 2010.  The company sold 1,71,607 units during the April to November 2010 last year.

According to reports, SMIPL Vice President (Sales and Marketing) Atul Gupta was quoted as saying “We have received very good response from the market to all our products. The growing customer satisfaction among present owners of Suzuki products has led to a positive word-of-mouth in the market. We are committed to give the best to our customers.”

After the strike Suzuki Motorcycle is doing well. As far as this month compare its domestic sales is ahead of Yamaha Motors India.

Mahindra Two Wheelers

Two wheeler company Mahindra two wheeler reported de growth of 49.33% in the month of November 2011 compared to November 2010. Total sales stood at 8,034 units in the month of November 2011 compared to 15,854 units in the month of November 2010. Month on Month basis the company’s sales is down by 55.24%. The company sold 17,949 units last month. During the April to November 2011 period the company reported sales of 100,268 units down by 7.06% compared to sales of 1,07,888 units in the same month last year.

The company has reported massive de growth this month also in spite of dealer base expansion and promotional activities. This HMSI is clear indication that customers are moving from brand Mahindra. Moreover market leader has increased Activa production which is also taking some unit sales of Mahindra two wheelers. Going forward we will not see good growth figure if situation remains like this. The company is now looking for holistic business partnership with Yamaha to overcome this situation.

Summary

The Indian two wheeler industry’s growth rate remain intact after in the month of November after sluggish October month sales.  The November 2011 month has seen sales of more than 1.32 million units up by 26.67% compared to 1.04 million units sold in November 2010. The period April 2011 to November 2011 has witnessed growth of 17.40% over the same period last year. More than 10.20 million units of two wheelers sold during the period of April 2011 to November 2011 compared to 8.69 million units in the same period last year.

Hero Moto Corp the market leader is continuously posting double digit growth with robust sales each month. It has done 4.12 million units sales in the current financial year. Bajaj Auto the second largest manufacturer of two wheelers has sold over 2.67 million units in the current financial year.

TVS Motors has sold more than 1.47 million units whereas HMSI sales stood at 1.30 million units during April 2011 to November 2011 period. Yamaha India, Suzuki Motorcycle and Mahindra two wheelers sold 0.32 million, 0.22 million and 0.1 million units respectively during the period of April 2011 to November 2011. It seems that the industry may grow at double digit but the growth rate will be around 10-12% for the rest of the financial year.

Note: Suzuki Motorcycle did not disclose its October 2011 month sales figure and It is due to this reason we do not have year till date sale figure for the same. TVS Motors reported 1,80,006 units of sales in October 2011 which was down by 6.15% compared to sales of 1,91,822 units in the month of October 2010. The cumulative two wheeler sales for April to October 2011 period increased 11.56% compared to 11,62,861 units sold in the same period last year.
