Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 Unveiled, Made In India For The World

Developed in partnership with Hero MotoCorp, the new Sprint 440 will go on sale in international markets from 2027

Harley-Davidson has officially taken the wraps off the Sprint 440, a new entry-level cruiser developed in partnership with Hero MotoCorp. The motorcycle brings a more traditional cruiser design to the company’s 440cc platform, moving away from the roadster styling of the X440. It will make its public debut at EICMA 2026 in Milan, with deliveries in the US scheduled to begin in spring 2027.

The Sprint 440 is particularly interesting because it gives Harley-Davidson a motorcycle with a distinctly different character without requiring an entirely new engine platform. It gets a long, low stance, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a scooped rider seat and swept-back handlebars. A shortened rear mudguard, stepped pillion section and low-mounted exhaust complete the look.

Power comes from a 440 cc, air- and oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 26.7 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 38 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and an assist-and-slipper clutch.

These figures are close to those of the X440, although Harley-Davidson has not positioned the Sprint as a performance-oriented motorcycle. Its focus is on accessible performance and usable low-speed torque, which should suit its relaxed riding position. The company claims a combined fuel efficiency of approximately 34 kmpl. Interestingly, the Sprint gets a smaller 9-litre fuel tank compared to the 13.5-litre unit on the India-spec X440. This is one of the compromises that comes with its more compact cruiser proportions.

The Sprint 440’s biggest ergonomic advantage is its 671 mm laden seat height. The narrow seat and fuel tank are designed to make it easier for riders to place their feet firmly on the ground. Harley-Davidson will also offer optional Reach and Tallboy seats for different rider requirements.

Despite its traditional styling, the Sprint 440 gets a reasonably modern equipment package. It features a circular 3.5-inch colour TFT instrument console, full LED lighting, and a USB Type-C charging port above the headlamp.

Harley-Davidson will also offer a range of accessories, including a detachable windscreen, saddlebags, passenger backrest, engine guard and alternative handlebars. These should allow owners to configure the motorcycle for everyday commuting or relaxed weekend touring.
