The Sprint 440 cruiser has been spotted at a Harley-Davidson dealership ahead of its global debut in India
The upcoming Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 has been captured on camera for the first time ahead of its official debut in the Indian market. It has been learnt that the demo bikes have started arriving at the dealerships in India. It will be the second model to be co-developed by Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp after the X440. The Sprint 440 is presented in a traditional cruiser body type while the X440 is an out-and-out roadster. The cruiser motorcycle will directly rival Royal Enfield Classic 350, Triumph Bonneville T40 and Honda CB 350.
First things first, the Sprint 440, staying true to its cruiser character, comes with scooped single-piece seat, raised handlebar and a new fuel tank. We can also clearly see the a silver-coloured exhaust shield, machined engine fins and black body work. The silencer pipe is also a fresh unit as compared to the X440. The fuel tank flaunts the Harley-Davidson branding in the form of an orange coloured graphic.
The ‘Sprint 440’ badging can be seen on the side body panels. A few other notable styling elements include a circular headlamp, LED turn indicators, and smaller front fender. It misses out on a windscreen due to the exposed headlamp assembly. The footpegs are positioned slightly forward from their conventional place. The alloy wheels are identical to the ones seen on the X440.
The spy images show USD front forks and twin shock rear suspension. The stopping power is coming from the disc brakes at both the ends. The Sprint 440 is likely to feature a double-channel ABS as standard. A few other traditional cruiser elements include the round instrument cluster with Smartphone Bluetooth connectivity, keyed ignition and a simple switchgear.
The tail section has a thicker rear tyre as we usually see in most of the cruiser bikes. It is flanked by a compact LED tail-lamp cluster with separate turn indicators. Sharing the same platform as the X440, Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 will be powered by the tried-and-trusted 440cc single-cylinder air/oil-cooled engine which develops top power of 27 bhp and peak torque of 38 Nm.
It is expected to use the same 6-speed gearbox as the X440. The riding ergonomics are going to be different than the X440 due to its cruiser body type. One can expect relaxed riding position, lower ground clearance and comfortable longer journeys with the Sprint 440. Harley-Davidson is globally renowned for its big fat cruiser bikes and it remains to be seen how the Sprint 440 carries that legacy forward.
