Harley-Davidson Once Again Become King Of The Premium Bike Segment Of India

Harley-Davidson regains the top seller spot in the premium bikes segment of India… Pan America & Sportster S contributed massively…

So, the iconic brand Harley-Davidson, which had their own share of struggles in our country, bounced back in FY22 and occupied the top-spot by selling the most motorcycles in the premium segment of India.

According to data shared by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Harley-Davidson sold a total of 601 in FY22, out of which 531 units were of the 1000cc+ premium segment. This particular segment sales were dominated by Harley-Davidson’s flagship offerings of Pan America 1250 Special and Sportster S motorcycles.

Comparing the new numbers with previous Financial Year’s numbers, H-D nearly tripled their sales in FY22. The company only sold 206 units in FY21. Harley-Davidson overtook big names like Triumph Motorcycles India, which only sold 336 units, India Kawasaki Motors – 283 units, Suzuki Motorcycles India – 233 units and HMSI which sold only 71 units in the 1000cc+ premium motorcycle segment.

It was just two years ago (2020), when Harley-Davidson announced that they have decided to stop manufacturing in India after 11 years of being in the country. It was then that Hero MotoCorp stepped-up and struck a deal with them and took over the distribution of H-D motorcycles, spare parts, accessories and merchandise.

Hero then went ahead and set up a separate vertical in order to push and grow the H-D business and distribution in our country. Till now, Hero MotoCorp have worked hard to expand the Harley-Davidson network to establish 13 showrooms and 10 service centers all across the country.
