Electric Two-Wheeler Sales Touch Record High in March 2026

The sales data available till March 27 (2026) showed volumes surpassing 1.39 lakh units against 1.31 lakh units sold in whole of March 2025

The electric two-wheeler sales touched a record high in March 2026 in the Indian market. According to the sales data available till March 27, a total of 1.39 lakh units have been retailed as compared to 1.31 lakh units sold in March 2025. Despite the geopolitical tensions in and around West Asia, the Indian electric two-wheeler segment has posted strong YoY sales growth, likely to be in double digits. It is assumed that overall sales in March 2026 could surpass the previous highest of 1.45 lakh units, which was registered in Oct 2025.

In FY26 (Apr 2025 – Mar 2026), the e2w sales witnessed a YoY growth of 1.35 million units as compared to 1.15 million units sold during FY25 (Apr 2024 – Mar 2025). This phenomenal rise in sales numbers is due to the expansion of charging infrastructure, introduction of new models, and various discounts, incentives and subsidies offered by the EV brands.

Recently, multiple electric two-wheeler brands rolled out limited editions or special editions of their popular scooters around high-visibility events such as the Holi festival, T20 Cricket world cup, and IPL 2026. Ola Electric has spearheaded this spree of wheeling out discounts and benefits with special/limited edition models as almost every day the Bengaluru-based EV company has come up with some sort of offers and new models for the customers.

Ola Electric has been struggling with sales volumes as numbers have declined to 1.61 lakh units in FY26 from 3.44 lakh units in FY25. The brand could not even touch the 4000 units sales mark in Feb 2026 and was outnumbered by Greaves Electric Mobility (GEM) which retails the Ampere electric scooters in India. Hence, it has announced heavy discounts and benefits on its S1 range of e-scooters and Roadster line-up of electric motorcycles.

The segment leader of electric two-wheelers is TVS Motor Company with sales crossing 1 lakh units milestone in Q4 FY26 (Jan-Mar). The sales data reveal that the Hosur-based brand is all set to surpass the 3 lakh units mark in FY26 while the volumes in FY25 stood at 2.38 lakh units. Though the exact number is not known yet, it is likely to be around 3.3 lakh units as it becomes the first such player in the e2w segment to achieve this feat.
