UM launched three motorcycles at the Auto Expo in February 2016. The most exciting Commando and Sports S were available for bookings soon after and their deliveries, though delayed, have been on for quite some time now. However the Classic has been delayed from the announced ‘few months’ to more than a year.
But according to Indianautosblog’s latest conversation with Mr Rajeev Mishra, Director Operations UM, deliveries of the Classic will begin from May 2017 onwards. He also informed that bookings of the motorcycle will begin a month earlier in April. Update – the motorcycle has been spotted at an event (could be a dealer-level event) along with the upcoming Renegade Mojave.
In terms of changes, we could spot a new dark brown metallic colour, white tyre side walls, black coloured side cowl (instead of cheap chrome unit of the Auto Expo). The seat is also light brown in colour (instead of black).
UM earlier announced that Classic, which is the range topping cruiser in their lineup, will be offered with fuel injection (both the Commando and Sports S are carburetted) and will be powered by the same 279.5 cc single cylinder engine. We expect minor power bump from the 25 PS and 22 Nm of the current tune. Apart from this, it will also get ABS as an optional extra. And with the new emission norms kicking in, it has to be BS4 compliant as well.
UM, at the Auto Expo’s launch of Classic announced that the motorcycle will be available at Rs 1.69 Lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. They have already announced a price increment on their existing models to the tune of upto Rs 8000 and on the backdrop of upgrading its motorcycles to BS4 compliance, expect price increments on the Classic when it eventually goes on sale. We expect a minimum hike of around Rs 10,000!
