Rajiv Bajaj Calls Hero & Others ‘Greedy’; Fiercely Opposes BS4 Sale Extension

This issue of BS4 sale extension is now becoming a controversial topic even among direct two-wheeler rivals. Rajiv Bajaj sounded aggressive with his opposition…

Rajiv Bajaj, who has again been appointed Bajaj Auto’s Managing Director for the next five years, is furious with this call for the extension of Bharat Stage 4 compliant two-wheeler sales.

Hero MotoCorp has recently announced that it has filed a request with the Supreme Court of India for an extension in the sale of Bharat Stage 4 compliant two-wheelers because of the Coronavirus pandemic. As a precautionary measure, everyone in the country has been advised to stay at home which has resulted in a significant drop in the sale of two-wheelers. Federation of Automobile Dealers Association has also knocked the SC for the third time for an extension in BS4 sales.

However, Rajiv Bajaj is opposing the move. In an interview he says that there is no ground for seeking an extension since everyone was given a notice of three years! He adds that companies that are left with massive BS4 stocks are direct management failures as some of them continued to make them (BS4 vehicles) till as late as February 2020! Aghast by this call, he has gone onto call them as ‘greedy‘!

Bajaj, which is yet to officially announce launch of many BS6 models, has very little BS4 stock left, according to its MD…

BIG Cash Discounts on Hero Xpulse BS4

He says that any extension in the sale of BS4 two-wheelers will be a penalty for all those makers which complied with the law and they will be at a competitive disadvantage since the equivalent BS6 vehicles are relatively higher priced. He adds that this also presents a negative perception about the auto industry as a whole.

7 Lakh BS4 2-Wheelers Lie Unsold; Deadline Just a Week Away

Asked if Bajaj has any BS4 stock left, Rajiv Bajaj said that most of the stock with its dealerships is BS6 compliant and whatever of the BS4 is left will be cleared by March 31 – which is the deadline till which BS4 vehicles will be registered. Royal Enfield has already announced that it has exhausted its BS4 stock completely and none of its dealership has a single BS4 motorcycle now!
