BMW F 450 GS Testing Starts in India, 1st Spy Pics Here

The F 450 GS has been spotted on camera in Tamil Nadu with rumours suggesting that it will be developed at Hosur production facility of TVS.

BMW F 450 GS made its global debut in concept form at the EICMA 2024 in Milan, Italy. It was also showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in January in New Delhi. Now, the ADV bike has been spotted testing for the first time on the Indian roads in Tamil Nadu. The spied test unit of BMW F 450 GS was wearing heavy camouflage while it looked near production ready. It is believed that the adventure motorcycle could be unveiled in production form at the EICMA 2025 around November while going on sale in the subsequent months in the Indian market.

The F 450 GS will be the brand’s entry-level adventure motorcycle in India to rival the likes of Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure. The German company used to sell the G 310 GS in India but due to the OBD-2B emission norms, it didn’t upgrade the bike and phased it out from our country. BMW F 450 GS will be positioned below the F 900 GS in the brand’s portfolio in the domestic market.

The test mule captured on camera in Tamil Nadu was heavily camouflaged and hence, it didn’t give away too much styling info. However, the spied motorcycle flaunts the same silhouette as the concept version with elements like single-unit headlamp and beak-like front fender.

Though, the tall windscreen seen on the concept model was also present in the spied unit of F 450 GS and it is still unclear whether it will come as standard feature or an after-market accessory. The most important detail revealed by the spy-shots is that the test mule was riding on alloy wheels instead of the cross-spoke wheels which were offered with the concept version. The design of the alloys was similar to the ones available with the G 310 GS.

The spy pics further showed that the test units were equipped with some sort of luggage rack. Interestingly, one bike was spotted with knuckle guards while the other one was without this feature. This makes us believe that BMW could offer two variants of the F 450 GS in the Indian market namely road and off-road. It could be packed with Eurogrip Duratrail EB+ tyres which did duty on the G 310 GS.

Mechanically, the F 450 GS will be powered by a new twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with power output of up to 48 bhp. This engine will be paired with a 6-speed transmission alongside a slipper clutch, dual-channel ABS and a quickshifter. It could be priced in a range of Rs 3.5-4.5 lakh (ex-showroom) in the domestic market.
