The Concept RR is based on the BMW Motorrad factory superbike M 1000 RR while powered by a 4-cylinder liquid-cooled engine
BMW Motorrad Concept RR made its world premiere last year at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como. During the global debut, the company had officially stated that it previews the new-generation of BMW RR superbike models. Now, the design patent for the same has been filed in India, which hints that production-ready model could also go on sale in our country in near future. Based on the BMW Motorrad factory superbike M 1000 RR, BMW Concept RR borrows its 4-cylinder liquid-cooled engine.
Furthermore, BMW Concept RR shares several other elements such as engine management, traction control, and engine brake with the M 1000 RR which won the FIM World Superbike Championship last year. The German luxury brand has extensively used high-tech materials such as carbon and aluminum in the Concept RR to make it a lightweight motorcycle.
The styling is done on the basis of three principles namely Sharp, Purposeful and Expressive. It flaunts an embossed RR logo at the rear while an illuminated RR is also visible on the downside of the delicate aluminum tail. BMW claims that the engineering team has laid special emphasis on the aerodynamic character of the RR Concept. It has been presented with a ventilated front and rear profile.
In particular, “riding stability at very high speeds,” “maximum cornering speeds,” and “minimal air resistance for optimal top speed” have been specifically taken care of. The Concept RR also boasts of an aerodynamically optimized fairing with integrated winglets and high-performance brakes. The in-line 4-cylinder engine at the helm of the concept makes top power of over 227 bhp.
Presently, BMW Motorrad India retails the S 1000 RR in the country at a staggering price point of Rs 23.25 lakh (ex-showroom). It comes loaded with a 999cc four-cylinder petrol engine which generates max power of 210 hp at 13,750 rpm and peak torque of 113 Nm at 11,000 rpm. The Concept RR is yet to make its debut in production-ready form and the company has not disclosed a timeline either as of now.
Hence, the patent filing doesn’t ensure a launch in our market but it certainly indicates that the new-generation of BMW RR superbike models are being seriously considered for India. We are likely to get an update on the Concept RR in the coming months.
