Bajaj Auto informed that Chetak production has restarted from Aug 20 in full capacity with adequate supply of rare earth magnets.
Bajaj Auto has officially announced that it has resumed the deliveries of the Chetak electric scooter across all dealerships by overcoming constraints caused by global rare earth magnet availability. The sales and delivery schedule of almost every EV brand got affected in the last few weeks in India due to the unavailability of rare earth magnets as China had deliberately stopped the supplies. However, it has been sorted now and the production has resumed once again from Aug 20, 2025 in full capacity with adequate supply of rare earth magnets.
Eric Vas, President, Urbanite Business Unit, Bajaj Auto, said, “We appreciate our customers’ patience. Demand for Chetak remains robust, supplies have normalised and deliveries against bookings have commenced. We are scaling up production to meet rising demand while staying true to our standards of quality and customer delight.”

Bajaj Auto, without naming China directly, said in its official statement that the company experienced ‘temporary supply constraints linked to international component availability’ which affected the Chetak deliveries for a brief period of time. The Pune-based two-wheeler brand added that the ‘sustained and growing demand for Chetak added further pressure on supply’.
Bajaj Auto stated that it has enough rare earth magnets and other important materials at its disposal for ensuring unhindered production and deliveries of the Chetak electric scooter during the upcoming festive season. The company also informed via press note that it is planning to scale up the production to bridge the demand-supply gap.

Bajaj Chetak was the highest-selling electric scooter in the Indian market in FY25. The Chetak has doubled its market share since April 2024 in the domestic market. A couple of months back, the company launched the most affordable Chetak e-scooter in the form of the 3001 at a sticker price of Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom).
Sitting on the same chassis as the Chetak 35 series, the 3001 was introduced with a floorboard mounted 3 kWh battery and range of 127 km on a full charge. Some of the notable features onboard the e-scooter are Call Accept/Reject, Music Control, Guide Me Home Lights, Hill Hold Assist, Reverse Light and Auto-Flashing Stop Lamp.
