India’s electric scooter market grew 67.5% year-on-year, with Hero Vida and TVS Orbiter also recording strong numbers
India’s electric scooter market continued to expand in September 2026, with the TVS iQube taking the top spot ahead of the Bajaj Chetak. The segment recorded 1,86,692 units during the month, up 67.49% from 1,11,463 units in September last year.
The monthly performance was less uniform, though. While the iQube and Hero Vida gained ground over August, the Chetak and Ather Rizta recorded a decline in volumes. Overall, electric scooter sales were marginally lower than in the previous month. The TVS iQube emerged as September’s best-selling electric scooter, recording 45,320 units.
That represents a 47.05% increase over the 30,820 units sold in September 2025. Sales also rose 5.69% month-on-month, helping it move ahead of the Chetak. The Bajaj Chetak finished second with 42,394 units, registering 38.73% year-on-year growth. However, its sales fell 18.86% from the 52,248 units recorded in August.

| Rank | Electric Scooter | Sales |
|---|---|---|
| 1. | TVS iQube | 45,320 |
| 2. | Bajaj Chetak | 42,394 |
| 3. | Hero Vida | 28,862 |
| 4. | Ather Rizta | 19,813 |
| 5. | TVS Orbiter | 17,027 |
| 6. | Ampere Magnus | 10,532 |
| 7. | Ather 450 | 6,168 |
| 8. | River Indie | 6,057 |
| 9. | Ather Konarc | 4,140 |
| 10. | Ampere Reo | 2,047 |
Together, the two scooters accounted for nearly 47% of the month’s reported electric scooter sales, underlining how closely the top two models are competing. Hero Vida retained third place with 28,862 units, an 88.28% increase over September last year. It also grew 12.93% compared with August, making it one of the stronger performers among the leading models.
The Ather Rizta ranked fourth with 19,813 units. Its year-on-year growth was a more modest 4.73%, while sales fell 12.28% from August’s 22,586 units. TVS Orbiter followed in fifth place with 17,027 units, up from 14,641 units in August. With the iQube and Orbiter combined, TVS recorded 62,347 units across the two electric scooter models.

Ampere Magnus recorded 10,532 units, up 70.45% year-on-year. The Ather 450 followed with 6,168 units, marginally below its September 2025 tally of 6,218 units. River Indie registered 6,057 units, more than tripling its year-ago sales of 1,960 units. Ather Konarc recorded 4,140 units, compared with 217 units in August, as its monthly volumes picked up.
Electric scooters accounted for around 18.75% of domestic scooter sales in September, compared with approximately 15.01% a year earlier. Total domestic scooter sales reached 9,95,576 units, with petrol-powered models still accounting for the bulk of the market.

Despite the strong annual growth, electric scooter volumes slipped by 2,022 units compared with August. The September numbers suggest that demand remains significantly higher than a year ago, even as individual models experience month-to-month fluctuations.
