New Aprilia Mass-Market Electric Scooter India Launch in 2027

The company is developing an all-new platform specifically for India which will support both ICE and EV scooters in price range of Rs 85,000-1.30 lakh

Piaggio Group is all set to launch a mass-market electric scooter in the Indian market. The company is developing an all-new platform specifically for India which will support both ICE and EV models. Diego Graffi, Chairman, CEO, and Managing Director of Piaggio Vehicles, confirmed that the new scooter range will be launched in 2027 under the Aprilia brand. The e-scooter and 125cc ICE powered model will be priced between Rs 85,000-1,30,000 (ex-showroom). It was the further learnt that the higher price spectrum will have premium electric scooters.

“We want to address the price tag that is the most common here in India, basically between ₹85,000-90,000 up to ₹1.2-1.3 lakh, with the more premium EV variants. So it will be a range of products that we are going to introduce,” Graffi said. The brand stated that it has been working on the India-specific platform for the last few years and it is an integral part of the company’s expansion plans.

Rather than converting an ICE platform for electrification, the new scooter platform has been designed and developed to accommodate a EV right from the beginning. Presently, Piaggio is observing the new developments around electric two-wheeler industry in India, including the recently announced Delhi EV Policy 2026. However, the company’s approach is to cover the entire market instead of focusing on a single state.

Piaggio also cleared that it has no plans to offer an electric scooter under the Vespa branding as the ongoing configuration doesn’t allow the brand to achieve the required range and performance while being affordable in cost. “For the time being, we prefer to focus on the new platform that is also, as I said, originally designed for EV to optimise cost, performance characteristics, range, and all the others,” Graffi added.

The brand has also set a target of increasing exports from India to other global markets. Currently, around 10-20 percent of the overall two-wheeler production from Baramati factory in Maharashtra is utilised for shipping to various countries. “Our aspiration is to go at least 50 per cent of what we produce here in India to be meant also for the export market,” Graffi concluded.

The made-in-India Aprilia RS 457 and Tuono 457 are exported to several international markets. Piaggio will follow the same approach with the future models as well, including the upcoming electric scooter. Graffi confirmed that the all-new electric and ICE scooters, which are in development phase, are also meant not only for India, but the same variants will be also exported to Europe.
