BMW F 450 RR Breaks Cover, Fully-Faired Sportsbike India Launch Soon

It is the third motorcycle in the BMW F 450 family after the GS adventure and R naked models

BMW F 450 RR has made its global premiere as it goes on sale in the coming days in several international markets, including India. Being the third model in the BMW F 450 family after the GS adventure and R naked motorcycles, it is a fully-faired supersports bike which will directly rival Aprilia RS 457, Kawasaki Ninja 500 and KTM RC 390 in our country. The F 450 RR, identical to the F 450 GS and F 450 R, will be locally manufactured in India at TVS Motor Company’s production facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

“What I particularly like about the new BMW F 450 RR is how light, direct, and precise it is to ride. To me, that’s exactly what a supersport motorcycle should be. It’s great fun on twisty roads and performs just as well on the racetrack. At the same time, it clearly carries the DNA of our RR models. For me, it’s the perfect entry into the world of BMW RR motorcycles,” said Markus Flasch, CEO BMW Motorrad.

Inspired by the S 1000 RR, BMW F 450 RR design highlights include pronounced nose-down, tail-up stance, the signature RR flyline, side fairing panels, clip-on handlebars, split face, and LED headlamp with signature RR daytime running light (DRL). Except for the design, it shares pretty much everything with the F 450 GS which includes the platform, engine and features.

It has been presented in four variants namely Base, Sport, M Sport and M Sport with Innovation Package. Sitting on a tubular steel space frame, the fully-faired sportsbike boasts of BMW’s Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) with Shift Assistant Pro to ensure shifting of gears without manual clutch operation. The riders also get Rain, Road, and Race riding modes as standard. The sportsbike has a fuel tank capacity of 14 litres.

A few notable features onboard the F 450 RR are all-LED lighting, 6.5-inch TFT display, ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), and engine drag torque control (MSR). The German luxury brand claims that it comes with supersport-specific tuning and a short wheelbase for agile handling and high stability. The suspension duties are helmed by KYB-sourced USD front forks and monoshock rear absorber with adjustable spring preload and rebound damping.

BMW F 450 RR rides on 17-inch cast-aluminum wheels which are fitted with tubeless tires measuring 110/70 section at the front and 150/60 section at the rear. The braking duties are handled by a single disc unit at front as well as rear end. At the heart, it has the same same 420cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled petrol engine which generates max power of 47 bhp at 8,750 rpm and peak torque of 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm. It is linked to a 6-speed transmission.
