The Tenere 900 fits in the latest scheme of the brand as it intends to launch multiple premium motorcycles in the Indian market
Yamaha Tenere 900 could have its highly-anticipated global debut at the EICMA 2026 in November. Recently, the Japanese brand announced that it is bringing something “big” to the Milan Motorcycle Show later this year in Italy. Earlier, we had told you that the company has confirmed to launch multiple new models in the 250-1000cc segment in the Indian market. Hence, it could well be nothing short of a co-incidence if we get to see the Tenere 900 adventure tourer at the upcoming edition of EICMA and later on, it goes on sale in India.
“Yamaha is redefining the standard. The industry has followed the same rhythm for quite some time. We are ready for that to change. Something new is coming,” read the official statement from Yamaha. The teaser image released alongside the statement shows three distinct beats, hinting at an in-line triple-cylinder engine which could be at the helm of the adventure bike.
Yamaha Tenere 700 was showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi. Although it has been nearly two years since the ADV motorcycle debuted on the Indian soil, yet their is no word on the official launch. Recently, Hajime Aota – Chairman of Yamaha India, confirmed that the brand is planning to introduce multiple premium motorcycles in India.
While Aota refrained from naming the exact models, he hinted that the company will introduce several higher capacity motorcycles in our market. Presently, Yamaha’s most premium bike is the recently launched R2 with a 200cc engine. Globally, the Japanese two-wheeler brand retails an array of high-performance models in the form of XSR900, MT-07, MT-09, R3, R7 and R9 among many others.
The Tenere 900 and Tenere 700 could be worthy rivals to the likes of Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, Triumph Tiger 900 GT, BMW F 900 GS and KTM 890 Adventure R. The local production of these ADV bikes could help Yamaha up to a huge extent in keeping the prices aggressive. None of the aforementioned rival models are locally built in India as they are sold via the CBU route.
While the features and engine specs of the Tenere 900 are not known yet, the global-spec Tenere 700 comes with some of the most upmarket and advanced features in the form of Lean-senstive traction control system, Slide control system, Switchable cornering ABS, Cruise control with speed limiter, YCC-T electronic throttle and power modes. It draws power from a 689cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which churns out 72 bhp and 68 Nm while coupled with a 6-speed gearbox.
